Change The Results

Good morning! Sisters and brothers we have made it to Friday. Praise God for another day, where we can draw nearer to Him. Today, we will continue our reading in Matthew chapter 21. It’s another parable that we will cover this parable in two parts (one today and one on Monday) Enjoy today’s devotion and your weekend.

Bible Verses – Matthew 21:33-37

“33 “Now listen to another story. A certain landowner planted a vineyard, built a wall around it, dug a pit for pressing out the grape juice, and built a lookout tower. Then he leased the vineyard to tenant farmers and moved to another country. 34 At the time of the grape harvest, he sent his servants to collect his share of the crop. 35 But the farmers grabbed his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another. 36 So the landowner sent a larger group of his servants to collect for him, but the results were the same. 37 “Finally, the owner sent his son, thinking, ‘Surely they will respect my son.’” – Matthew 21:33-37 NLT

This parable is similar to the overall book of the Bible. However, in this parable the certain landowner is God. God created the garden/earth and gave it to be cared for. While God has never left us, there were Prophets and Priests (servants of God) that He sent to share the Word of God. Some of the people (children of Israel – Isaiah 5:1-7)/kings who heard the word/warnings repented, while others ignored – threatened to kill, and plotted to kill the servants that God sent. You may know the stories of the prophets, but God loved us so much that He sent his One and only son Jesus to save us all.

We have an opportunity to change the results.

Today and throughout the weekend, think about the many times God put someone in your path and they shared the gospel message with you. Think on the various responses that you gave before you accepted the Lord Jesus as the Savior of your life.

  • What has changed in your life since then?
  • What still needs to change (e.g., stubborn will, selfishness, self-centeredness, lying tongues, cursing, envy, anger, accepting some of the Word of God but not all of it, trusting God more)?
  • Are you ready to change?
  • If so, today – surrender or resurrender your life to Christ and give Him the authority (His rightful place in your life) to change you.

Don’t let anyone or anything detour you from living your best life in Christ Jesus. Remember God sent Jesus for us, Jesus came for us so that we would be saved, so that our sins would be forgiven, so that we can be reconciled to God, so that we may have life and live it abundantly, and when this life on earth is over – we will be with God for eternity.

Prayer

Father God, your patience with your children is beyond measure. Lord God, your love is limitless and unending. Lord, you are the One who prepares our heart to receive your love, and softens our heart and mind to be obedient. Lord, we are tired of our selfish, sometimes lazy, and self-centered ways. So Lord, just as the farmer prepared the land, prepare our hearts to receive your instructions and give us an obedient Spirit to follow you with all our heart. Lord, if it is your will for us to live through today, give us an opportunity to respond to your call on our lives, and let us serve you wherever you send us. Lord, equip us and teach us your ways. Lord, when you come for us we want to stand approved by you. So Lord, keep working on us. Lord, continue to show us what you desire for us, to recognize within us what needs to change, and to be submissive enough to allow you to change us. Lord, you have come for the lost and we thank you for finding us. Use us Lord, to bring others to the kingdom. Lord, we lift up every prayer request to you. In Jesus name, amen.
