Good morning! May the Lord increase our faith. Enjoy today’s reading and your day.

BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 15:21-28 NLT
21 Then Jesus left Galilee and went north to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 A Gentile woman who lived there came to him, pleading, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! For my daughter is possessed by a demon that torments her severely.”

23 But Jesus gave her no reply, not even a word. Then his disciples urged him to send her away. “Tell her to go away,” they said. “She is bothering us with all her begging.”
24 Then Jesus said to the woman, “I was sent only to help God’s lost sheep—the people of Israel.”
25 But she came and worshiped him, pleading again, “Lord, help me!”
26 Jesus responded, “It isn’t right to take food from the children and throw it to the dogs.”
27 She replied, “That’s true, Lord, but even dogs are allowed to eat the scraps that fall beneath their masters’ table.”
28 “Dear woman,” Jesus said to her, “your faith is great. Your request is granted.”  And her daughter was instantly healed.”

REFLECTION
While Jesus began His ministry speaking to Israel, Israel’s religious leaders often rejected Jesus’ teachings and the miracles he had done. This woman was a gentile woman (probably a Canaanite) persistent in her request for the Lord to heal and deliver her daughter. It was obvious that she heard about or saw Jesus performing miracles. As she pressed in and remained consistent and confident in her request, the Lord rewarded her faithfulness by granting her the answer to her prayer.

While the gentile woman knew that the Jews often referred to the Gentiles as dogs, she also knew dogs received scraps (the left overs/crumbs). Her faith in just receiving a little of Jesus allowed her daughter to be healed

Brothers and sisters, no matter what background we come from the Lord loves us and Jesus came to die on the cross for us.

Take aways:

• Jesus has the authority to cast out demons.

• Jesus answers prayers. He honors consistent prayer.

• No matter our background, we can go directly to God the Father in Jesus name and ask for healing for our selves or on behalf of others.

• The woman had faith.

What do you need to pray about or who do you need to pray for? ________

PRAYER
Father God, thank you for having mercy on us. Lord, while we were sinners you came to save us. Lord, we thank you. Lord, we need you. You know all the needs of these readers, you know every tear that has fallen from their eyes. Lord, you know the prayers that have been prayed for – day after day and year after year. Lord, today we are asking that you answer our prayers. Lord, restore marriages, heal the mothers with Lupus, heal those with cancer, heal those with chronic illnesses, heal the sick, reconcile families, clear debts, provide jobs, repair cars, recover the children who are missing, and bring peace to those who are struggling. Lord, as you answer those prayers, we also ask that you continue to work in us to be faithful servants of you. Lord, guide us to speak to others about you. Make us bold, brave and increase our faith. Protect those suffering from wars around the world. Give guidance and wisdom to the world leaders on what to do next. Lord, we know you are able to do these things and more, we trust you and your will be done. In Jesus name,  amen!
