Happy Wednesday! Thank you, Jesus we made it to another day. Have you ever had one of those moments when you call out to God and you are waiting for him to come through? Have you looked up to the sky and held your hands up and said,  Lord anytime now, you know what we need, we are just waiting for you? Or maybe you said, Lord are you there, can you hear me, are you sleeping? Well the disciples had a similar experience. Enjoy today’s devotion. 

BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 8:23-27 NLT

“23 Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. 24 Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”

26 Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm.

27 The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked. “Even the winds and waves obey him!”” 

Reflection

The disciples were fishermen and they were familiar with rough seas, but the seas were different that day. However, it became a day when Jesus taught them again.

Jesus demonstrated His authority over the winds and the waves. He rebuked the disciples and the sea. He demonstrated that while we may be troubled or frightened by the winds and waves, that He is in control of those things too. When we leave it with Jesus there is a great calm. 

Brothers and sisters there will be times when we are in the middle of a storm, but don’t worry the God who watches over Israel is the same God who watches over us, he doesn’t slumber nor sleep (refer to Psalm 121:4). The Lord, is our keeper. When we are anxious or afraid, let us stand in faith, remembering the promises of the Lord. Let us remind the Lord of His promises to us. Ask Him to calm the storms. Let Him show up and show out. 

Will you ask Jesus to strengthen your faith and trust in him when storms and seas or just life needs to become calm around you?

PRAYER

Father God, we come to you with many things on our hearts. Lord, we know who you are, Savior, Healer, Prince of Peace, The Great I Am, Miracle Worker and Protector. Lord, we desire to know you more. Lord, strengthen our relationship and trust in you. Lord, calm the storms in our lives. Lord, wake us up from our current frame of mind and give us new vision and our mission here on earth. Lord, we are ready to pursue our purpose in you. Lord, guide us and direct us. Take our hand and lead us in the way we should go. Lord, equip us with all the tools that we need to serve you. Use every gift you have poured into us, don’t let us waste a single gift. Lord, keep us amazed. Lord, we pray for all the households this week. Lord, will you please meet us in our homes, in our marriages, in our schools, on our jobs, in our relationships with others, in our churches, meet each of our needs and help us to recognize Your blessings and provision. Lord, bring the chaos around us into order – calm the storms. Lord, impact the world. Change us, Lord. Lord, give us favor today and as we go through today. Speak to us and help us to hear and obey you. In Jesus name, amen.
