Good morning! We are continuing our reading in Matthew 5. May our light shine brighter than fireworks that fill the sky and brighten the night’s skyline. Enjoy your day and today’s verses.
BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 5:14-16.
“14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
REFLECTION
Have you ever watched a beautiful sunset? Generally, there are beautiful colors in the sky because of the setting of the sun that never ceases to give light. And, while one day the sun was setting on the west coast in my rear view mirror and the sky was bright from a distance, the road I was on was becoming dark and at times required me to use my high beams (bright lights) to help me to see the road with clarity.
In the same way, we will see Christians all around the world. Some will have bright beautiful lights that shine as bright as the evening sunset sky or the sun at noon in the summer. Others will have just enough light to follow the path the Lord has put before them. However, no matter how bright our lights are, when things in life or our path may seem darker than usual, don’t forget to tap into the power of the Holy Spirit who will activate the bright lights. The Holy Spirit will light up our path to a magnitude that we cannot contain and will allow us to shine brighter than we can on our own. As we continue to serve the Lord despite our circumstances and are filled with Him (our light source) our internal light will shine for all to see.
As we exemplify the qualities of the Beatitudes (see last week and the week prior), let your light shine so that the Father receives all the honor and praise.
Questions to Ponder:
Will you display the light the Lord has given you? _______
Will you share your light with the world? ______
PRAYER
Father God, thank you for another day and opportunity to serve you. Lord, we love you and thank you for all you have done for us. Lord, you are our rock and shield, our promise keeper and our comforter. Lord, you know everything about us and what is happening in our lives. Lord, we ask for your presence and your strength to sustain us each day. Lord, may your peace overflow in us. Lord, we want to be a light in this world. Lord, teach us to follow you and not to be afraid of showing our God-given talent to the world. Lord, continue to be our guide in all that we do. Lord, work in us, and continue to transform our thinking and our lives. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
