Salt of the Earth

Good morning! Salt is one of the ingredients that will bring almost any dish to life. It has many purposes that include food preservation, preparing food, cleaning, as a barrier for ants, it will kill slugs/snails on contact and be used for so much more.  Enjoy today’s devotion and your weekend.

Bible Verse – Matthew 5:13 NLT
“13 You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.”

REFLECTION

In the first part of Matthew chapter 5 it began with the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus began teaching about the Beatitudes. As we read today, Jesus completed the topic of the beatitudes and began to teach on salt and light.

Reflecting on today’s verses, an online dictionary described ‘salt of the earth’ as: “A person or group considered the best or most worthy part of society.”

However, in verse 13, Jesus is saying if you are a Christian (a follower of Christ) then you are the salt of the earth and you have worth/value, don’t lose it.

Brothers and sisters, don’t be a watered down package of salt that loses it’s value and is thrown out. As we seek to follow Christ, be the key ingredient that the world will see. Allow the Lord to use you and sprinkle your God-given gifts around the world.

The world needs more people who will follow Christ and who will love like Him. Will you be more salty (in a loving way) by sharing the love of God with others and by exhibiting His love in the world?

PRAYER
Father God, thank you for today. Thank you for your love and mercy. Thank you for examining our hearts and for adding your love into our hearts. Lord, there is no one in the world like you. You are the Alpha and the Omega, the Great I Am, Comforter, Healer and Prince of Peace. Lord, keep us hungry and thirsty for you. Lord, help us to seek you in all things. Protect us from harm and teach us your magnificent ways. Lord, use us to bring glory to your name. Give us the gifts of discernment and wisdom to care for and encourage others. Lord, we pray for those who are sick, dying, and grieving. Lord, comfort them and give them the strength and peace that they need today. Lord, comfort one of our sisters in faith as her and her family rebuild their lives after losing everything in the Eaton fire. Lord, comfort her and give her the daily strength that she needs to trust you and the process of rebuilding and grieving what was lost. Lord, be with those who also have been displaced, grieved, and don’t know what to do next. Lord, expedite the process of recovery and rebuilding. In Jesus name, amen.
