Into The Community

Good morning! Before there were social media followers, there were people who followed Jesus. Who are you following? Enjoy today’s devotion.

BIBLE VERSE  – Matthew 4:23-25 NLT.
“23 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness among the people. 24 So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought to him all the sick, those who were afflicted with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, and paralytics, and he cured them. 25 And great crowds followed him from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.”

REFLECTION
Jesus had a mission and the people had a need. He preached in the synagogues but he also went out into the community (Jewish and non-Jewish) – Jesus did not wait for people to go to the synagogue “church” for healing and deliverance, Jesus met them right where they were. Jesus didn’t visit one ethnic or religious community, he visited many.

A few take always:

  • He had numerous followers that followed him to various places.
  • God is still in the business of teaching and healing today.
  • Jesus came to save everyone who wants to be saved and reconciled back to God.

Questions to ponder:
What do you need to learn today about Jesus? _________

What do you or a loved one need to be healed from today? ______
Who are you following? __________

I pray that Jesus will teach or lead you to a Christian who can teach you more about Him. I pray that you and your loved one will be healed – in Jesus, name. I pray that you will begin to follow Jesus even more.

PRAYER
Father God,  you are amazing. No one can measure against your power or might. You are merciful and you extend grace we do not deserve. Lord, thank you for coming down to earth, for preaching the good news and for healing the sick. Lord, thank you for continuing to perform miracles and healings today in our lifetime. Lord you are timeless and your ways are beyond our understanding, yet you teach us your ways – thank you, Lord. Lord, we want to be ready when you decide to return or call us home, whichever comes first. Lord, equip us with your wisdom so that we can go out and share the gospel and have faith to trust you as we pray for the healing of the sick. Lord, we pray for the terminally ill and ask that you send faith filled Christians to comfort and pray with them. Lord, we know that with the wave of your hand you can heal anyone. Yet Lord, we also trust you and your plan. Lord, send your angels to be with the ill and to comfort family members as they prepare for their loved one to depart from this earth. Lord, sustain their faith. Lord, wherever there is lack of faith, teach them and show them who you are. Lord, change us. Also, Lord we pray for the families who are being separated and sent back to their countries. Lord, we pray for their protection and safety. We pray for innocent children who are displaced and pray that they do not be lost or forgotten about in camps or other systems. Protect them from injury and harm. Lord, please work out the details and help decision makers as they work on various laws that will impact our children. Lord, we are all foreigners on this earth simply waiting to go home to be with you. However, while we are here guide us to live a life that pleases you and may our actions and decisions glorify your name. In Jesus name, amen.
