Good morning! When the Lord opens opportunities for you to do His will do not be afraid, walk in faith and trust that He will give you whatever you lack to accomplish His will and plan. May the Lord open up opportunities for you to be a part of His greater plan. Enjoy today’s devotion and your weekend.
Bible Verse – Matthew 3:13-17 NLT
“13 Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to talk him out of it. “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,” he said, “so why are you coming to me?”
15 But Jesus said, “It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires.” So John agreed to baptize him.
16 After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.””
Reflection
John the Baptist (John) said, “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,” he said, “so why are you coming to me?” (v.14)
Key points:
- John’s type of baptism was for repentance from sin, yet Jesus had never sinned (2 Cor. 5:21; Hebrews 4:15; 7:26; 1 John 3:5).
- Jesus’ baptism was done to fulfill all righteousness.
- All three Persons of the Godhead were present:
- the Father who spoke of His Son (v.17; Eph.1:6; Col. 1:13),
- the Son who was being baptized, and the Spirit who descended on the Son as a dove (Isaiah 11:2).
- the Holy Spirit empowered the Son for his ministry on earth.
Time to Ponder
While we won’t be called to baptize Jesus, God is calling us to do great things.
Questions:
What is God calling you to do? ________
If you aren’t sure, pray about it and ask the Lord to show you.
If you know what God is calling you to do, what’s holding you back? _________
Ask the Lord, to guide you and give you wisdom to accomplish all that he has called you to do.
Prayer
Father God, we know you don’t need help from us, but thank you for your willingness to use us to accomplish your plans. Lord, we desire to bring you joy everyday of our lives. Lord, thank you for fulfilling your promises and for making a way for us to be reconciled to you. Lord, forgive us when we don’t follow your guidance. Lord, equip us with a willing heart to serve, discernment to hear your voice, an obedient spirit to follow your plan and an open mind to trust your plan. Use us Lord, so that more people will come to know you and receive the free gift of salvation.
Lord, we pray for the mother whose child passed away. Lord, comfort their hearts and give them the peace and wisdom that they need to continue to live life without their child physically with them. Lord, we ask that you heal those who are suffering with viruses. Restore their energy and strength. Lord, continue to draw us nearer to you. Continue to change us Lord. In Jesus name, amen.
