Good morning. The author of the book of Hebrews continued to write his final reminders as he closed the chapter. Today, we will read his reminder to us about money and the Lord being our helper. Join me as we read from chapter 13.
Bible Verse – Hebrews 13:5-6 NLT
“5 Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said,
“I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” 6 So we can say with confidence,
“The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?””
Reflection
The Bible has many verses throughout the scriptures that remind or tell us to love God, love others, love our neighbors, but it is also very clear about what we should not love – and that is ‘money’. Additional verses that remind us about the relationship we should have with money include Matthew 6:21 and 6:24, 1 Timothy 6:10 and 6:17-19.
When we put our confidence in the Lord over our confidence in money we will learn to trust the Lord more. Remember the Lord is greater than the money we have. He is our protector, provider, and sustainer. Keep trusting the Lord first.
Prayer
Father God, we thank you for all the things that you have done for us. You have never abandoned or forsaken us. You’ve been our rock, our fortress, and our strength on the worse days of our lives. You’ve given us peace on days that seemed chaotic or overwhelming. You’ve blessed us with good, perfect, wonderful and loving days filled with no worries or concerns. We thank you for helping us to recognize your presence, strength, and peace through all of our days. Lord, as we wrap the last Friday and weekend of this month we want to thank you for your promises and for keeping us this year. Lord, continue to work in our hearts and transform us to be more like you every day of our lives. Lord, bless us with your peace. Renew our hearts and minds as you see fit. Develop within us a grateful heart that puts you first today and in the new year to come.
Lord, comfort grieving families and continue to strengthen their hearts. Strength the mind of the weak. Heal those who are depressed or are struggling with mental health. Lord, open job opportunities for the unemployed and place them in healthy work environments. Continue to heal marriages and open communication between spouses. Lord, heal family dynamics, and restore homes with peace and harmony. In Jesus name, amen.
