Good morning! Last Friday, we read about discipline – while God’s discipline does not feel God, it is necessary to produce fruitful living. This morning we will continue our reading in Hebrews chapter 12 where the author reminds us to renew our strength.
Bible Verse – Hebrews 12:12-13 NLT
“12 So take a new grip with your tired hands and strengthen your weak knees. 13 Mark out a straight path for your feet so that those who are weak and lame will not fall but become strong.”
Reflection
The author wrote these verses to encourage readers who were beginning or were already feeling spiritually weak. He wanted to encourage and strengthen the readers in the truth of God’s word, it was also a reminder to them that there were weaker believers who needed them to be strong too. We all need to be encouraged when we are spiritually weak. When we are strengthened we can strengthen others who are weak. However, when we lose hope or are not walking in the strength of the Lord, others fail to have an example when they need strengthening.
Sisters and brothers, sometimes we find ourselves tired and wonder if what we do makes or will make a difference. We ask ourselves, “is it really worth what we are facing today?” Let me encourage you and say, yes, it is. There are and will be days when life is difficult and/or painful, but I need for you to trust that the Lord is with us on those days too.
I know the Lord has called me to encourage and strengthen other believers even in my time of weakness. And praise God, other believers have come alongside me to strengthen me. For the Lord knows what each of us need and sometimes he uses us as a vessel to help others in need.
If you are willing to follow Christ there will always be something we must overcome or endure, but understand there is no greater reward than being faithful to the One who has and will continue to be faithful to us. So take a good grip of faith or as my brother would say, “suck it up” and start/continue to press through your weaknesses in the strength of the Lord. The Lord is our strength, our guide, our refuge, our peace, our comfort, and way-maker. While it may be difficult – the waves will come, but they will not consume you. Stand on what you believe.
Prayer
Father God, we know there is a lot going in our lives and at times it is difficult for us to focus on you, but Lord may we always remember you in everything we go through. Lord, we praise you for strengthening us and for giving us hope even on the most difficult days. Lord, set our eyes and hearts toward you – may our face stay focused on you like a stoned face – unmoved. Lord, bring other godly Christian brothers and sisters around us to help strengthen us in our weakest moments. Lord, help us to be godly Christian’s who walk with and help to strengthen others Your way.
Lord, comfort our friends and family. Lord, bring peace into our homes and keep it in our lives. Direct our steps today, and throughout the week. Lead us and help us to be a godly example of you in any place or situation we may find ourselves in this week.
In Jesus name, Amen! Amen!
