Good morning! Yesterday, we read about heroes of the faith who followed good in faith. We also read that while others also followed God by faith that their lives were a bit more difficult. Join me as we finish our reading in Hebrews chapter eleven.
Bible Verse – Hebrews 11:35-40 NLT
“35 Women received their loved ones back again from death.
But others were tortured, refusing to turn from God in order to be set free. They placed their hope in a better life after the resurrection.
36 Some were jeered at, and their backs were cut open with whips. Others were chained in prisons. 37 Some died by stoning, some were sawed in half,[d]and others were killed with the sword. Some went about wearing skins of sheep and goats, destitute and oppressed and mistreated. 38 They were too good for this world, wandering over deserts and mountains, hiding in caves and holes in the ground.
39 All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith, yet none of them received all that God had promised. 40 For God had something better in mind for us, so that they would not reach perfection without us.”
Reflection
In these final verses we read the cost to follow God. However, we have also read about the hope, promises, and redemption for those who followed God by faith.
Sisters and brothers, walking by faith isn’t always a cake walk. There are difficulties and challenges we all face. Some challenges are greater than others and some are difficult, but very different. The one thing that does not change is God’s faithfulness toward us. Whatever you may be facing place your hope and faith in God.
May your character and reputation demonstrate that you live by faith.
Prayer
Father God, we thank you for the reminders in Hebrews chapter 11. We thank you for the strength, peace, and truth your word provides. Lord, we ask that you guide us in our personal walk/relationship with you. Help us to recall the faithfulness of our sisters and brothers who went before us. Help us to also recall how faithful you have been to us. Lord, continue to teach us your ways. Transform our negative thoughts into positive ones that reflect your ways and truths. Lord, help us this holiday season to remember the true meaning of Christmas and why you came to earth. Thank you for saving us. Lord, continue to change the hearts of non- believers and those who have stepped away from the faith. Lord, let the hear and receive the message of faith and salvation.
Lord, continue to heal those who are sick. Clear up coughs, congestion, etc. Ease the pain of those who have chronic arthritis, fibromyalgia, lupus, etc. Lord, restore their health and energy. Lord, be with all the students going through finals. Help them to successfully pass their exams. Lord, keep children safe as they leave home, go to school, and return home. Lord, help those who are having difficulties on their job and improve their working conditions. Give them the support that they need to do well on their jobs. Lord, we also pray for those going through interview processes and we ask that you bless them with good employment in a healthy work environment. In Jesus name, amen.
