Don’t Stay Stuck

Good morning, It’s Friday! Have you pondered on yesterday’s devotion when Ananias said, Yes, Lord! (Acts 9:10).Today we are going to read further on Ananias’ response to God’s instructions (Acts 9:11-12). Join me as we continue our reading in Acts chapter nine. Have a wonderful day and weekend.

Bible Verse – Acts 9:13-14 NLT

13 “But Lord,” exclaimed Ananias, “I’ve heard many people talk about the terrible things this man has done to the believersin Jerusalem!  14 And he is authorized by the leading priests to arrest everyone who calls upon your name.””

Reflection
Have you ever found yourself in a situation like Ananias – one where you clearly heard the Lord’s instructions but questioned the Lord and what He was calling you to do?

  • In prior verses, we read Ananias heard the Lord call his name.
  • It was so clear that Ananias said, yes, Lord!
  • The Lord gave Ananias instructions with details to the name of the street and which house to go to.

Ananias basically said [paraphrase mine], hold on Lord I don’t think you understand or maybe you’ve forgotten how Saul has persecuted Christians/believers – let’s reassess what you are asking of me.

  • See Ananias heard what other people said. Ananias’ fears tried to drown out what he heard from the Lord.
  • He looked at the authority Saul was given by man. Not the authority given to the Lord (Matthew 28:18-20).

Many times as believers we get stuck when God calls us and tells us to go do something. We get blindsided or distracted by our fears, feelings of being inadequate or afraid of what others would think about us.

Sisters and brothers, God knows exactly what He is doing and calling us to do. If we really reassess what God has called us to do, how many times have we said “but Lord” and walked away from what God had instructed us to do?

May I encourage you today to say, Yes Lord!

Prayer

Father God, we thank you for knowing what is best for us. Father, we thank you for guiding and protecting us in ways that we may not fully understand. In ways others may not fully understand. Lord, forgive us for the times when our “but God” became an excuse instead of trusting you to come through with a story of what you can do – but God came through. Lord, we want to see the miraculous and impossible accomplished because of you. Lord, we lift our hands to you today and say – use us, Lord! Lord, bind our fears. Remove our distractions. Touch us and heal us in the areas that have kept our minds in bondage to fear, the feelings of being overwhelmed, and concerned by others’ opinions of us and those who have rejected us. Lord, we desire to serve you. Help us to reassess our hearts, minds, and lives to realign them with your purpose, your greater plan, and your will. Lord, our world needs you – send us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
