Faithful and True

Happy Friday! This morning we will begin our review of the final chapter in the book of Philippians. Join me as we read the first verse. Enjoy your day and weekend.

Bible verse – Philippians 4:1 NLT

“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters,[a] stay true to the Lord. I love you and long to see you, dear friends, for you are my joy and the crown I receive for my work.”

Reflection

Apostle Paul begins chapter four with a reminder and a closure. The reminder is to stay true to the Lord. Often times we hear wedding vows that say, “I promise to be true to you.” At the time, the bride and the groom are inseparable in love pledging a lifetime of faithfulness and honesty toward one another. It is like that for new believers when they come to Christ – they are on fire  for the Lord, full of gratitude and they tell everyone about this man named Jesus who saved a wretch like them. Totally committed. Do you remember that day you said, yes to the Lord?

Sisters and brothers, if you are believers you are also called to a promise to be true in your relationship with the Lord. Are you willing to recommit to the vow – to be faithful and true in your relationship with the Lord and pursue what He has called you to?

As you go throughout the day and weekend, think of the many times the Lord has been faithful and true to you. Then consider praying and asking the Lord how you can stay true to Him in every area of your life.

Sample prayer:

…yes, Lord! My Savior and Lord, I promise to be faithful and true – putting no other god or person before you. From this day forward, I desire to be true to you – in my relationship and worship with you.

Prayer

Father God, thank you for your love toward us. Thank you for your endless pursuit of our hearts and desire to change us from the inside out. Lord, we thank you for the work you have already done, are currently doing, and will continue until the day you call us home or your return. Lord, we desire to be faithful in our relationship with you. While there are many temptations around us and things competing for our attention we want to stay true to you, your word and the call that you have on our lives. Lord, lead us and direct our steps today. Be with those who have lost loved ones and are grieving. Lord, help them to grieve in a healthy way. Take them and heal the space in their hearts that are broken. Lord, touch the bodies of those who are ill and bring healing. Lord, give us all mental clarity about the things that concern you. Show us how to love the loveable and unloved. In Jesus name, amen.
