Good morning! As a kid, my brother and I would get home before our mother would get home from work. Our job was to change from our school clothes, do our homework and our household chores. Can anyone relate? We knew exactly when our mom was coming home. We knew how the car sounded, etc. So sometimes when we got home we would watch t.v., etc. But just before she got home we were racing to do our chores and be at the table or our room doing our homework. Well, maybe I was the only kid in the house who did this, but I had it down to a science until she came home earlier – the gig was up. My mom put me back in line very quickly. 😊 Today we will finish reading Matthew chapter 24, where Jesus shares a similar story. Enjoy your day and be safe.
Bible Verse – Matthew 24:45-51 NLT
“45 “A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them. 46 If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward. 47 I tell you the truth, the master will put that servant in charge of all he owns. 48 But what if the servant is evil and thinks, ‘My master won’t be back for a while,’ 49 and he begins beating the other servants, partying, and getting drunk? 50 The master will return unannounced and unexpected, 51 and he will cut the servant to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
Reflection
Sisters and brothers, the Lord is calling us to be faithful servants. He has gifted us with many talents and gifts that we can use to advance the kingdom and share the word of God. Additionally, just as the master entrusted the servants in his absence, God is entrusting us with the care of the earth and to carry out his will.
Don’t be misdirected by distractions, fear or be complacency. The Lord’s plans will prevail, He will return. So whether you leave this earth before He returns or on the day He does, be found doing and being about your Father’s business.
Will you serve Him today and all the days of your life? Surrender your will to His.
Prayer
Lord God, thank you for another day. Thank you for your unending and unconditional love. Lord, you are great in all the earth. Lord, we want to be servants that you can trust. Servants that serve you with our whole heart. Lord, forgive us for being selfish with our gifts. Lord, forgive us for doing our own things instead of serving and following you. Lord, rid our hearts of our own selfishness and inward deceit. Lord, we know we can’t fool you. Lord, continue to stabilize our footing, don’t let us be moved by distractions on the left or the trials on the right, Lord hold us together and keep us focused on you. Lord, whatever is paralyzing us from pursuing your plan for our lives – open our eyes and help us to see it. Lord, give us the strength and wisdom to let those things go. Lord, help us to hear you speak to us and be obedient to what you are directing us to do. Lord, keep changing our hearts so that we may love like you love. In Jesus name, amen.
