Poor in Spirit

Good morning! Have you ever been around someone with a puffed up attitude – an attitude that was far beyond humility and was eager to humility others or made themselves seem better than others? Where does that attitude or behavior come from?  Well today we are going to talk about the blessing of being pour in spirit. May God’s blessings be poured out into your life and may His Holy Spirit fill you today and always.

BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 5:3 NLT
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

REFLECTION
Living a life that is poor in spirit doesn’t mean that we walk around with our head down. Pour in spirit is recognizing our inability to please God. God has called us his own. Apart from God we cannot do anything that pleases him. We can try, we can convince others, but we cannot fool God.

There are many times in our lives that we feel that we can do things independently from God, but God desires to be with us always, in the big and small decisions in our lives. From the time we wake up until we fall asleep, the Lord calls us to depend on him.

As we allow the Holy Spirit to take control of our lives and bring us to a place of submission, allowing His spirit to lead and guide us in the way we should go, we will find ourselves more attuned with the Spirit and consciously dependent on God.

Questions to Ponder:
What particular attitude or area of your life do you need God to help you with today? _________

Will you depend on God instead of seeking your own results? ______

Will you consult with God and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you today and throughout the week? _______

PRAYER
Father God, thank you for today. Lord, thank you for being greater than any decision we must make today. Lord, thank you for being God over all things. Lord, touch our hearts so that we may release all the things that keep us from depending on you. Lord, reveal to us the areas in our lives that are prideful and keep us bound from receiving the fullness of your grace, mercy, and blessings. Lord, teach us how to trust you and surrender ourselves to you in every area of our lives. Lord, we want the kingdom of heaven, so teach us to be poor in spirit so that we can be filled and led by your Holy Spirit. In Jesus name, amen.
