Good morning! Have you ever been so busy that the day seemed to disappear right before your eyes? You may have questioned, where did the time go? Then there were other days when the time dragged on and it seemed like the day would never end. Today, in 2 Peter chapter 3 we will read on what God thinks about time. Join me as we continue reading.
Bible Verse – 2 Peter 3:8-10 NLT
“8 But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. 9 The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment.“
Reflection
The mockers and scoffers may believe the Lord isn’t coming back or that Christianity is false because of the amount of time it is taking for the Lord to return, but the author is reminding us that time in our eyes is different from the way the Lord views time. We may see signs that the Lord is returning, but scripture reminds us that no one knows the day or time that the Lord will return. Yet, we must be ready and prepared as if the Lord is coming back today.
Are you ready? _________________
While many of us are eager for the Lord’s return, we must remember that he doesn’t want anyone to perish. The Lord desires for us all to repent and accept him as Lord and Savior of our lives. He desires for believers to inform nonbelievers of the good news (the gospel message). He desires for us all to spend our lives with Him for eternity, but the Lord will not force himself on anyone. The choice to accept Christ as our Lord is a personal decision and everyone must make a personal decision to live in Christ or live apart from Christ. There is no in between.
Are you living in Christ or apart from Christ? ________
Sisters and brothers, while the Lord is patient, remember his return is certain. Keep praying for nonbelievers in your family, keep praying for nonbelievers in your workplace, keep praying for nonbelievers in the world to turn to God and accept Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior. While you are praying for them, continue to be a living example of one who is in Christ. Let others see Christ in you.
Who are you praying for today? ____________
Prayer
Lord, thank you for your mercy and patience with us. Lord, you know our struggles and you know our concerns. Lord, you understand us better than we understand ourselves. Lord, you know our insecurities and our weaknesses. Yet, Lord you love us. Lord, your word says that you came so that we may have life and have it abundantly. Lord, we ask that you release us from the enemies schemes that strive to keep us in bondage to insecurities, false accusations, addictions and the lies that we are not enough. Lord, your word says you are near to the broken hearted, that you make beauty from ashes, you give the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. Therefore, Lord we trust you for complete healing and for the gift of restoration for our souls. Lord, we trust the peace that you give and ask that you pour it out on us today. Lord, we thank you in advance for making us whole in you. Lord, as you heal us mentally, emotionally and spiritually help us to be a light to others. May our break through encourage someone else’s break through. In Jesus name, amen.
