Shed Light

Good morning! Sometimes when my granddaughter spends the night she reminds me of the time. While she hasn’t learned to tell time, she knows the difference between night and day. She knows when it’s time to get up “grandma it’s time to get up – the sun is up” or time for bed “it’s not time for bed, the sun is not down”. In today’s devotion we are going to continue our reading in Acts 22, with Paul giving his audience (who desires him dead) a glimpse of his life transformation. Join us as Paul sheds light on the situation.

“As I was on the road, approaching Damascus about noon, a very bright light from heaven suddenly shone down around me. I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’

“‘Who are you, lord?’ I asked.

“And the voice replied, ‘I am Jesus the Nazarene,[b] the one you are persecuting.’ The people with me saw the light but didn’t understand the voice speaking to me.

10 “I asked, ‘What should I do, Lord?’

“And the Lord told me, ‘Get up and go into Damascus, and there you will be told everything you are to do.’” – Acts 22:6-10 NLT

Reflection

Considering that I wrote a devotion on this encounter while reading through Acts chapters 8 and 9 – Saul’s conversion, I want to solely focus on verse 6b “a very bright light from heaven suddenly shone down around me.”; and 9 “The people with me saw the light but didn’t understand the voice speaking to me.

Sisters and brothers, Jesus is always shedding light on situations. According to the Free Dictionary shed light means:

“shed (some) light on (something) To reveal information or details about something; to clarify or help people understand something.”

  • What are some of the areas in your life that you need Jesus to shed light on? ______
  • If Jesus shed light on your situation would you humbly submit to His direction and go or do what He instructs you to do? ________

Sisters and brothers, let Jesus shed some light on you today. Let us not only see the light, but lets spend more time with the Lord to understand what He is saying to us individually.

Prayer

Father God we thank you for waking us up this morning. Thank you for a new opportunity to grow and change. Thank you for a peace of mind and a sincere desire to surrender everything to you. Lord, there is no one more capable to handle our lives than you. Lord, you know our brokenness and you know the mended us. Lord, keep working within us, faithfully transforming us, and creating us to be who you called us to be. Lord, we are tired of holding onto things in our past that keeps us from being the best version of who you designed us to be. Lord, shed light in all the corners and cracks in our lives. Heal us from the inside out. Lord, you are the great physician, the one who changes everything and heals the most broken. Lord, continue your work in us, in our families, on our jobs, in the medical offices, in our churches, in the “homes” & shelters, in our nation and around the world. Lord, we need you. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

“Interruptions. They’re aggravating. Sometimes infuriating. But how we handle interruptions actually tell us more about ourselves. What do we do when God interrupts our lives? Many times, like Jonah, we run! Priscilla redefines interruption and shows that interruption is actually God’s invitation to do something beyond our wildest dreams. When Jonah was willing to allow God to interrupt his life, the result was revival in an entire city.” – Priscilla Shirer
