Good morning! For years I thought about the gift of a great inheritance, you know the type that you read about in the papers. Some of those heierst like the Hurst’s, the Hilton’s and other brand name heiresses like Heinz or In-N-Out owners. They are set for life on this earth, but I often wonder if they are prepared for life after. Today we will read 1 Peter chapter 1, verses 3-5 about an inheritance that we can look forward to. Join me as we read today’s verses.
“3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, 4 and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. 5 And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.” – 1 Peter 1:3-5 NLT
Key points in these verses (and there are more that I did not list):
- By God’s great mercy we have been born again.
- God raised Jesus from the dead.
- Because of that we have a great inheritance.
- Because of our faith, God is protecting us by his power until we receive this salvation.
Sisters and brothers, it is not by anything that we have done that made it possible for us to receive salvation. It is only by God’s grace that we are able to receive an inheritance in heaven and have the assurance of salvation. Our belief in Christ Jesus and what he did on the cross is what sets us apart to receive all that the Lord has for us.
This year has come with many surprises and unexpected twist, but God knows the storyline and He made sure that in the end victory is His. With that assurance we can rest in knowing nothing can separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:31-39), that He is our protector (Psalm 91) and that He will never leave us or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6, Hebrews 13:5). Continue to believe. Continue to trust. Hold onto your faith as our Father in heaven holds onto you.
Father God, we thank you and praise you for your mercy. Thank you Jesus for dying on the cross and God for raising him from the dead so that we can live with great expectation of the inheritance that we have in heaven. Lord, increase our faith and continue to protect us. Lord, you know every need of each reader today and we ask that you be with us as we seek you in the midst of our trials. Lord, we pray for those who lost loved ones over the past few months. Lord, remind them that you love them. Lord, help them through their grief. Direct us in the way we should go. Encourage us in faith and lead us to a place in our walk where we fully experience your power in our lives. Lord, transform us into who you desire for us to be. In Jesus name, amen.
Keep seeking! Keep trusting! Keep praying!
