By Faith – Not Afraid, Looking Ahead

Good morning! Today as we continue our reading in Hebrews chapter eleven (repost from August 2017), we are reminded of parents who demonstrated great faith, a child born for purpose, a young man who was afraid, a man who trusted God and a God who fulfilled His promises to that man and a nation. Join me as we continue to read about examples of faith.

“It was by faith that Moses’ parents hid him for three months when he was born. They saw that God had given them an unusual child, and they were not afraid to disobey the king’s command. It was by faith that Moses, when he grew up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to share the oppression of God’s people instead of enjoying the fleeting pleasures of sin. He thought it was better to suffer for the sake of Christ than to own the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking ahead to his great reward.” Hebrews 11:23-26 NLT.

Moses in his doubt and at times when he felt insecure about what God was calling him to do, basically told God I think you have the wrong person. Yet, as Moses struggled with God’s call on His life – Moses eventually said, who should I tell them sent me…God replied, “I AM” (Genesis 3:13-15, paraphrased).

Sometimes we have to make the unpopular or uncomfortable decision to follow Christ. We may feel inadequate or as though we are betraying family or friends, however the Lord should be our first priority – “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Matthew 6:22 NLT

Sisters and brothers, Moses was destined for greatness. Whether his greatness was living the only life he knew as Pharaoh’s grandson or being great in the eyes of the Lord as one who would deliver others from oppression, etc., – Moses had to choose which path he would take.

Questions to ponder:

  • If you were Moses, which choice would you have made?
  • What choice are you making today?

My prayer is that you will choose to trust God’s promises and walk in faith. God is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. Don’t get stuck in fear or with what is comfortable. Keep looking ahead.

Father God, thank you for the gift of today. Thank you for another opportunity to read your word and live by faith. Lord, you know sometimes we struggle with our faith, but thank you for never leaving us and for reminding us of your faithfulness. Lord, we pray that you give us boldness to do the things you have called us to. Give us a clear vision, mentors to help guide us in the process, and faith to be obedient and fearless. Cover us today as we prepare to go to work, to school, etc. Be our strength as we go through the day. Be with those who are grieving and comfort their hearts as they prepare to lay to rest their loved one. Lord, we also want to thank you for the prayers that have been answered – even in the darkest situations, God you are good. Continue Your work in us. In Jesus name, Amen.

Keep seeking! Keep trusting! Keep praying!
