It’s Friday, the final Friday of October 2019. As we prepare to move into 1 Corinthians chapter 13, I want to refresh our memory on Paul’s final sentence in 1 Corinthians 12 where he states,“But now let me show you a way of life that is best of all.” 1 Corinthians 12:31b NLT. He states this in response to the spiritual gifts listed in Chapter 12. Join me as we read 1 Corinthians chapter 13.
“If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. 3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it;[a] but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.” – 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 NLT
Sisters and brothers, while I plan to cover this section in further detail next week. However, over the weekend, I would like for you to ponder on these three verses in conjunction with what we read in chapter 12.
Paul points out the spiritual gift of languages, prophesy, knowledge and giving. He states if he had all these things and did not love it would be pointless (paraphrased by me).
Sisters and brothers, who is God calling you to love?_______ Will you pray for that person and for yourself today and this weekend? ________
Father God, in the name of Jesus we come before you with our arms stretched out to you and our hearts fully surrendered to you. Lord, you know the hurt and anger that fills our heart from time to time and we ask that you forgive us for our unwillingness to love others as you have commanded. Lord, we ask that you heal us and make us whole in every area of our lives. Lord, help us to be a Christ like example of love in this world. Lord, thank you for the spiritual gifts that you have given to us. Lord, may our love for others be as equally divine as our spiritual gifts. Lord, help us when we fall short, call us into obedience when it seems inconvenient and undesirable. Lord, you know us best. Heal our families, restore what the enemy has tried to steal and destroy. Pour out your Spirit upon us and use us in a mighty way today. Lord, we are your vessels, your broken clay – shape and model us for your use and purpose. We pray all these things in Jesus name, amen!
Keep praying! Keep Trusting! Keep believing!
