Good morning! Today we are beginning our reading in 1 Corinthians chapter 12. This chapter will cover spiritual gifts. Join me as we read verses one through three.
“Now, dear brothers and sisters,[a] regarding your question about the special abilities the Spirit gives us. I don’t want you to misunderstand this. 2 You know that when you were still pagans, you were led astray and, swept along in worshiping speechless idols. 3 So I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God will curse Jesus, and no one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit.” – 1 Corinthians 12:1-3 NLT
Paul is beginning his address to the Corinthian church regarding spiritual gifts by reminding them of who they once were. They were unbelievers who use to worship idols that could not speak (statues). He further explains that teachers in the church or false prophets are identified because they claim they speak with words from God, but they denied the humanity of Jesus. Which, Paul states you can’t believe in God and deny Jesus as Christ, son of God who suffered and now reigns as Lord.
Sisters and brothers, there are many religions today that don’t believe Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, rose again from the grave and now reigns as Lord over all the earth. However, there are some Christian who believe and still struggle with the fact that Jesus is Lord. It shouldn’t be that way. Sisters and brothers, we were saved by a Mighty God who sent His one and only son as a living sacrifice for our sins so that we can be saved and reconciled to God. There would never be enough animals/meat to sacrifice for all the sins this world (including you and I) committed or commit. We all need a Savior and God sent Jesus to save us.
Questions to ponder:
- Are you allowing Jesus to reign as Lord over your life or are you trying to take his position? ___________
- Are you willing to surrender your dreams, goals and ambitions to the One who knows you best, the One who came to save you? ____________
Father God, thank you for your love and grace that extends to us all. Thank you for out ability to recognize false teachers and those who desire to lead us astray. Lord, you have been so faithful. You are so good. Lord, when we are in doubt show us your truth. When we are operating in fear, remind us of your faithfulness. Lord, you know us best, you know every hair on our head and every single tear we cry. Lord, strengthen our faith and hope in you. Lord, we know that you are more than capable, you are sovereign and reign over all the earth. Lord, reign in our lives and lead us to the things that bring you glory. Continue to transform our selfishness to dependance and trust in you. In Jesus name, amen.
Keep praying! Keep Trusting! Keep believing!
