Happy Friday! This is the first Friday of the new year and I hope the first week was good for you. This morning we are starting in 1 John chapter 5 and we will pick back-up on Monday.
“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too. We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey his commandments.” 1 John 5:1-2 NLT
My granddaughter will be a year old next week. Over the past 11+ months I’ve seen her eyes open, her speech change, her ability to sit, crawl and stand on her own; become a little braver each day and attempt to take steps, but the one thing everyone looks to see (besides her beautiful eyes) is who she looks like and who she acts like (her character).
If the Lord can make drastic changes to a baby in 11+ months, he can change us too.
According to the verses above, everyone who believes in Jesus Christ has become a child of God. As children of God we should be growing and becoming more mature in our faith, so that when people see us they will know who we look like and who we act like – a child of the Most High, a daughter or son of the King of kings and the Lord of lords.
As we seek to follow God, we learn to love him with all our heart and all our mind, and obey his commands. As we surrender our will to his, His love will pour out of us – our eyes will be open to see our sisters and brothers who are hurting or in need, our speech will change to edify and encourage, and our faith will be strengthen for us to stand bold and courageous for the Lord.
Are you willing to allow the Lord to change you? _____
Father God, we thank you for accepting us as your children. Lord, we want to follow you with our whole heart and mind. Lord, we want to look like you and want people to know we are your children. Lord, will you change us from the inside out? Lord, will you guide us and teach us your ways so that we will love like you love? Lord, equip us and change us so that we may be a light to others in this dark world. Help us to be bold enough to follow you and share your word with others. Lord, teach us how to love and minister to the lost, least and the last. Help us to love our fellow believers. In Jesus name, amen!
Keep God first! Keep trusting! Keep praying!
