Good morning! Today we are finishing Matthew chapter 23. Chapter 23 began with Jesus criticizing the religious leaders and today the final verses will focus on Jesus grieving over Jerusalem. Enjoy today’s reading. 

Bible Verse – Matthew 23:37-39 NLT

^“37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me. ³⁸ And now, look, your house is abandoned and desolate. ³⁹ For I tell you this, you will never see me again until you say, ‘Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!’^{[Psalm 118:26]”}

Reflection

Jesus’ final cry of concern for Jerusalem, which is the capital and represented the nation, was that despite the people their had killed the prophet and stoned those sent to them, He longed to gather them to Him again. Yet, they refused or were unwilling to turn to the Lord. Their choice brought condemnation upon them. However, there will be a day when they will see Jesus again, and in that future day according to Zech. 12:10, Jesus will be accepted and not rejected. Praise God, because that means our loved ones and those we don’t know still have time to know and accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. The only problem is we don’t know how long they have, so keep praying for them and live as a reflection/representative of Christ.

Sisters and brothers, the Lord still desires to gather us “as a hen protects their chicks beneath their wings”. I challenge you this week to seek the Lord. Ask Him to open your eyes to see and your ears to hear Him. Allow Him to lead you in the right direction and protect you. Stay attuned to what God is saying to you, pray and be obedient to what He is calling you to do. 

Prayer

Father God, thank you for the opportunity to know, accept, and love you. Lord, continue to draw us near to you. Lord, let your truth not the world’s truth speak volumes into our hearts. Don’t let us be distracted by the world’s truth speak, help us to keep our eyes focused on you and the mission you (not the world’s truth) have called us too.

In Jesus name, amen.
