Good Seeds and Planted Weeds

Good morning! Today’s verses cover a portion of the second parable in Matthew 13. It’s the parable of the farmer scattering seed. We will read verses 24-30 today and later this week when we read verses 36-43 we will read how Jesus explains the meaning of today’s parable. Have a wonderful day! 😊

Bible Verse  – Matthew 13:24-30 NLT
24 Here is another story Jesus told: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a farmer who planted good seed in his field. 25 But that night as the workers slept, his enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat, then slipped away. 26 When the crop began to grow and produce grain, the weeds also grew.

27 “The farmer’s workers went to him and said, ‘Sir, the field where you planted that good seed is full of weeds! Where did they come from?’
28 “‘An enemy has done this!’ the farmer exclaimed.
“‘Should we pull out the weeds?’ they asked.
29 “‘No,’ he replied, ‘you’ll uproot the wheat if you do.
30 Let both grow together until the harvest. Then I will tell the harvesters to sort out the weeds, tie them into bundles, and burn them, and to put the wheat in the barn.’””

Reflection
This parable is filled with hints of what genuine believers encounter as they grow in the word along side those who are passive believers/non-believers or just evil.

Sisters and brothers, as we face things in the world, know the enemy is real. He is trying to sidetrack us and choke us at the root of our foundation with weeds of evil.  However, do not fear, the Lord is the greatest weed killer around. He knows the heart of each person. He knows how to supply believers with everything that they need to grow and flourish, even when there are weeds amongst us.

He will strengthen us and sustain us so that even when we are in the world, we won’t be of the world. Stand firm, the Lord will fight for you. Don’t let weeds rob you of your beauty in Christ.

Prayer
Father God, creator of all things thank you for creating us. Thank you for loving us. Thank you for your son Jesus. Lord, thank you for healing us. Lord, you are our rock and shield. You know our name. You hear us when we call. Lord, as we go through today and live amongst evil in the world – protect us. Lord, guide our thoughts and actions so that we are pleasing to you. Lord, keep us amazed by all that you are doing. Don’t let us miss one detail. Lord,  continue to change us and use us for your kingdom and glory. Transform us Lord. Lord, strengthen those who are grieving, who are mentally and emotionally struggling with life, help those who are struggling with anxiety and cannot seem to find peace. Lord, bind those spirits – in the name of Jesus and restore an overflow peace, comfort, love and a sound mind back to your children. Lord, over bound in hope in their lives. Give us favor this week as we seek to be examples of you in a world even with weeds around us. In Jesus name, amen.
