Heroes With Faith

Good morning! This week we will wrap our reading in Hebrews chapter eleven and begin our reading in chapter twelve. Today, we will read on the faith of other servants of the Lord.

Bible Verse – Hebrews 11:32-35 NLT

“32 How much more do I need to say? It would take too long to recount the stories of the faith of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and all the prophets. 33 By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight. 35 Women received their loved ones back again from death. But others were tortured, refusing to turn from God in order to be set free. They placed their hope in a better life after the resurrection.”

Reflection

Within these verses we are reminded of the resilient people of faith. They were persecuted and challenged. One was depressed, one was hunted, and had some fear. However, their faith in God allowed them to press through some of the most difficult times in their lives. Their stories can be found in the Bible:

Barack – Judges chapters 4-5

Gideon – Judges chapters 6-8

Jephthah – Judges chapters 11-12

Samson – Judges chapters 13-14

David – 1 Samuel – 2 Samuel

Samuel – 1 Samuel

While our names are not written in the Bible, God knows each of our names and they are ‘written on the palm of his hand’ (Isaiah 49:16). He knows our love for him and our desire to have great faith. Brothers and sisters keep pressing through, because the Lord is faithful.

Prayer

Father God, we know that you are all-powerful. We know that you are the great I AM. We know that no matter what we are facing today, you are in control. Lord strengthen us in our weakness. Give us peace and clarity of purpose. Protect us from the plots of our enemies. Cover our families. Open our eyes to see your faithfulness and live by faith in you. Lord, when we begin to doubt speak to us and lead us back into alignment with your faithfulness and give us peace of mind. Lord, when we are weary be our strength and help us to soar to new levels of trust and hope in you. Lord, thank you for saving us. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
