Faith In The Blessing

Good morning! It’s been two weeks and I am happy to be on the mend and able to write again. Thank you for your prayers while recovering.

Today, we will continue to read from Hebrews chapter eleven (the faith chapter). In these verses we will read about a family who endured betrayal and other obstacles, yet the patriarch of the family did not lose his faith in the promises of God.

Bible Verse – Hebrews 11:20-22 NLT

“20 It was by faith that Isaac promised blessings for the future to his sons, Jacob and Esau.

21 It was by faith that Jacob, when he was old and dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons and bowed in worship as he leaned on his staff.

22 It was by faith that Joseph, when he was about to die, said confidently that the people of Israel would leave Egypt. He even commanded them to take his bones with them when they left.”

Reflection

This family had faith that was shared throughout generations. Three generations are listed, but the fact that Joseph’s bones were taken out of Egypt signifies generations after also believed in God’s promise.

Now, please understand this family was far from perfect. They had a history of deception, betrayal and pain, but God was faithful. (This family’s story is written in the book of Genesis – it begins in chapter 17.)

Brothers and sisters, I don’t know your life story. I don’t know the things that have transpired in your past, but I can guarantee you that God didn’t bring you this far to keep you trapped where you came from. God wants to do something new in you. He wants to do something new in your family. Will you allow God to begin healing you? Will you trust Him to rewrite your faith story and fulfill His promises?

As we seek God and trust His promises, let’s not forget to share our faith with our family members. Don’t forget to share the promises of God with your children, grandchildren, spouse, nieces/nephews, cousins, aunts/uncles, or siblings.

When you leave this earth make sure your family has a biblical foundation to stand on and believe in?

My challenge to you today:

  • Ask God to come into your heart and begin to heal brokenness from your past.
  • Start praying for and over those family members who have lost their way, are still hurting or hung up from past situations, or are unhealthy to be around.
  • Keep praying for them to turn/return to the Lord and watch the Lord work.

Prayer

Father God, thank you for the example of faith through generations. Thank you for being perfect even when we are not. Lord, thank you for our undeserved grace and mercy. Thank you for giving us wisdom and clarity about things that are within and beyond our control. Lord, we know in the grand scheme of things that you will work all things out for the good.

Romans 8:28 reminds us:

“28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”

Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us:

“11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

Psalms 138:7-8 reminds us as King David prayed:

“7 Though I am surrounded by troubles, you will protect me from the anger of my enemies. You reach out your hand, and the power of your right hand saves me.

8  The Lord will work out his plans for my life—for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever. Don’t abandon me, for you made me.”

Lord help us to live a life that is pleasing to you. Help us to be bold in our faith and in our prayers. Transform us to look more like you each day. Guide our thoughts and shift our minds to remain focused on you. Shield us from the arrows of our enemies and give us peace as we follow you and while you graciously change us.

Lord, in addition to transforming us, Lord, continue to heal those who are brokenhearted and need your comfort and strength during this holiday season. Lord, encourage their hearts and help them to feel your love. Lord, continue to heal those who are ill and/or have chronic illnesses. Lord, we pray for the mother who will be giving birth today – Lord, let the delivery go well, without complications, and may the baby and mom be healthy. Be with their family and may this blessing fill their hearts and lives.

Lord, continue to provide for those with mental, medical, physical, emotional, spiritual and financial needs. Lord, thank you in advance for completely healing me and for those who stood with me in prayer. Lord, we pray for all the churches around the world as they share the true meaning of Christmas this holiday season. Jesus, thank you for coming to save us. In Jesus name, Amen!
