Faith Is Greater Than Offering

Good morning! Chapter 11 has taken us through a few examples of people who demonstrated faith. Before you begin reading, think back on a post from earlier this week where I asked, “What are you believing God for?” Pray about that one thing, before you read today’s devotion. May the Lord bless you today and throughout the week.

Bible Verse – Hebrews 11:17-19 NLT

17 It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God’s promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, 18 even though God had told him, “Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted.” 19 Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again. And in a sense, Abraham did receive his son back from the dead.”

Reflection

Abraham trusted God more than his emotions. While Abraham didn’t fully understand how…he trusted. He trusted God to fulfill His promise one way or another.

Sisters and brothers, sometimes we are prompted to give up things in order to follow the Lord. We may need to let friends go, leave a familiar place to pursue God’s plan for our lives, or sacrifice a lifestyle to live out what God has called us to do. Then there are other times when God calls us in the midst of our pain and worry to trust Him step-by-step (sometimes waiting). While we may struggle with those decisions, may I encourage you to trust the Lord. Because of His faithfulness, we can be faithful to him no matter what things look like around us. He restores,  He renews, He provides…

Prayer

Father God, thank you for your faithfulness. Thank you for opening doors when everything around us seems to be closed. Lord, thank you for opportunities to see you at work in our lives, our families and in the world. Lord continue to prompt us to get out of our comfort zone and follow you completely. Guide our actions and give us wisdom in the choices we must make. Lord, make it very clear to us what you desire of us. Help us to trust you more each moment of every day. Lord be with us today and protect us from the clutches of the enemy. Strengthen our prayer life and our trust in You. Lord, when doubt begins to cloud our mind remind us of who we are in you. Remind us that you deeply love us, are for us, and are always with us. Lord, we pray over those having surgery today. Lord, remove anxiety and give them peace. Lord, be with the doctors and medical professionals who will be assisting with the surgery. Lord, guide their hands and the tools that they will use. Lord, give them wisdom and guidance on how to operate and repair – and an obedient spirit to follow Your guidance. Lord, we continue to pray for those who are sick and ask for healing in their bodies – clear fevers, clear coughs, clear lungs, and improve chronic conditions (e.g., arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, blood pressure, etc). Lord keep healing the man with prostate cancer. Lord, continue to comfort those who are grieving. Help us all during this season of gratitude to be thankful for You and all that you have done and will do in our lives. In Jesus name, Amen!

*There will be a week without post/devotions. I will be having surgery today and I will post again after a week of recovery. May God bless you and your family through the Thanksgiving holiday.

We are still having Bible study on Thursday. This Thursday it will be led by Crystal Baldwin. Next Thursday we will not have Bible study due to Thanksgiving.
