To Do Your Will

Good morning! Thank you for joining us as we begin our reading in Hebrews chapter ten. May the Lord bless the reading and application of His word.

Bible Verse – Hebrews 10:1-7 NLT

“1 The old system under the law of Moses was only a shadow, a dim preview of the good things to come, not the good things themselves. The sacrifices under that system were repeated again and again, year after year, but they were never able to provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship. 2 If they could have provided perfect cleansing, the sacrifices would have stopped, for the worshipers would have been purified once for all time, and their feelings of guilt would have disappeared.

3 But instead, those sacrifices actually reminded them of their sins year after year. 4 For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. 5 That is why, when Christ[a] came into the world, he said to God,

“You did not want animal sacrifices or sin offerings. But you have given me a body to offer. 6 You were not pleased with burnt offerings or other offerings for sin. 7 Then I said, ‘Look, I have come to do your will, O God— as is written about me in the Scriptures.’”[b]”

Reflection

The Lord knew what we needed. He knew the burnt offerings and other offerings for sin did not change the hearts of those who worshiped him. He knew we needed a Savior who would take away our sins. Therefore, Christ Jesus came to do the will of the Father (God).

Today as you go about your day, will you surrender your heart and your plans to God and trust Him? Ask Him first, consult with Him daily. He won’t steer you the wrong way.

Prayer

Father God, we are so grateful for your gracious and merciful attitude towards us. Thank you again for sending Jesus Christ as the perfect sacrifice to cover our sins. Lord, we repent today – we ask for forgiveness of our sins and for transformation to occur in our hearts and minds. Lord, work in us and continue to help us have a surrendered heart toward you. Keep us focused on you and direct our steps.

Lord, watch over our young men and men in the world. Help them to draw closer to you and give them peace in their hearts. Surround them with godly men who demonstrate and live out godly values. Lord, give them discernment in the choices that they make and a bold heart and mind to turn away from things that do not please you. Lord, keep them safe on their way to work, school, appointments, etc.

Lord, we pray for the children who have lost one or both of their parents, and we ask that you comfort them and give them peace. We also pray for the parent(s) who have had their child(ren) pass away and we ask that you comfort them as they navigate life without them. Lord, continue to work in us and help us to leave a legacy that is pleasing to you and one that points people to Jesus. In Jesus name, amen!
