Good morning! Happy Friday. May the Lord who sees us continue to reveal His covenant promises to us through His word. Join me as we begin our reading in Hebrews chapter 9 as we learn about the old rules for worship.
Bible Verse – Hebrews 9:1-5 NLT
“1 That first covenant between God and Israel had regulations for worship and a place of worship here on earth. 2 There were two rooms in that Tabernacle.[a] In the first room were a lampstand, a table, and sacred loaves of bread on the table. This room was called the Holy Place. 3 Then there was a curtain, and behind the curtain was the second room[b] called the Most Holy Place. 4 In that room were a gold incense altar and a wooden chest called the Ark of the Covenant, which was covered with gold on all sides. Inside the Ark were a gold jar containing manna, Aaron’s staff that sprouted leaves, and the stone tablets of the covenant. 5 Above the Ark were the cherubim of divine glory, whose wings stretched out over the Ark’s cover, the place of atonement. But we cannot explain these things in detail now.”
Reflection
In these verses the author is providing a backdrop to help us to get a visual glimpse of the regulations for worship and the structure of the sanctuary. Note, there are two separate rooms one called the Holy Place and the second room which was behind a curtain was called the Most Holy Place. These are significant details to remember as we continue to learn about the first and second covenants.
Prayer
Father God, we thank you for another day where we have an opportunity to worship you from anywhere in the world. Lord, thank you for making it possible to pray and ask for forgiveness of sins in our home, car, job, at the beach, in church, at a park, etc. Lord, thank you for removing the barriers that kept us from worshipping you. Lord, thank you for coming to save us all.
Lord, we ask that you draw us nearer to you. Lord, ignite a passion within our souls to spend more time with you and in your word. Lord, whatever has distanced us from being close to you, remove those barriers and help us to find time to sit with you each day. Lord, we don’t want to spend time with you for show, we need you and want to be closer to you. Lord, continue to recall to our memory the words you have placed in our minds and on our hearts. Lord, help us to remain attuned to who you are and who we are in you.
Lord, we pray for the grandmother who is going to court over her grandchildren. Lord, we ask that you give her favor in the courtroom and we ask that you remove barriers that keep her grandchildren from her care. Lord, we pray for the family who will be burying their loved one today. Lord, give their family strength, peace, and comfort. Lord, we pray for those who are not feeling well, whether it be emotional, mental, and/or physical illness – Lord, you know the need and you are able to remove the neck and back pains, stress and depression, and heartache. Lord, please heal them, in Jesus name. Lord, we pray for disruptions that are happening in families and in homes and we ask that you work mightily to heal brokenness, generational trauma, mental health issues, control issues, remove verbal and physical abuse in the form of cursing, narcissistic tendencies, manipulation, and all the controlling behaviors that breakdown families. Lord, we leave our loved ones in your capable hands, but help us to grow and show us where we need to change and definitely direct us on when we need to remove ourselves from toxic environments until healing takes place. Lord, we want to be whole, help us to lean on you and walk in obedience to your word. Thank you for keeping us this week. Continue to use us as you please, because we know You can use anything and anyone for your greater plan and purpose – use us. In Jesus name, amen.
