Better Covenant and Promises

Good morning! May God bless your reading today and give you insight into His word.

Bible Verse – Hebrews 8:1-6 NLT

“1 Here is the main point: We have a High Priest who sat down in the place of honor beside the throne of the majestic God in heaven. 2 There he ministers in the heavenly Tabernacle,[a] the true place of worship that was built by the Lord and not by human hands.

3 And since every high priest is required to offer gifts and sacrifices, our High Priest must make an offering, too. 4 If he were here on earth, he would not even be a priest, since there already are priests who offer the gifts required by the law. 5 They serve in a system of worship that is only a copy, a shadow of the real one in heaven. For when Moses was getting ready to build the Tabernacle, God gave him this warning: “Be sure that you make everything according to the pattern I have shown you here on the mountain.”[b]

6 But now Jesus, our High Priest, has been given a ministry that is far superior to the old priesthood, for he is the one who mediates for us a far better covenant with God, based on better promises.”

Reflection

In these verses, the author makes a clear transition by stating, this is the main point. Meaning after reading the previous chapters… this is the point that the author of Hebrews was getting at, which is – The Lord Jesus is a High Priest who sat down at the right hand of God in heaven. He is the mediator (between us and God) and his ministry supersedes those who were earthly priests. The covenant that is in place now is superior than the covenant before and is founded on better promises.

We will read more about this in the coming days as we read further in chapter eight.

Prayer

Father God, thank you for blessing us with your son Jesus. Thank you for the better covenant with God and better promises. We thank you for the blessing of knowing you were intentional about each one of us having an opportunity to be saved. Lord Jesus, thank you for demonstrating your love for us when you came to earth, died on the cross, defeated sin and death, and insured us a way to heaven through you. No one else can or ever will be able to do what you have done for us. Lord, forgive us for the times we sinned (knowingly and unknowingly). Thank you for drawing us closer to you and for making a way for us commune with you. Lord, continue to remind us of your faithfulness. Remind us of the hope we have because of you. Lord, when the chaos around us seems too loud, help us to focus our thoughts, our hearts, and plans on you. Lord, lead us in way we should go and my others see you in us – always.

Lord, continue to comfort those who are grieving the loss of their loved ones. Lord, help not to become or remain paralyzed by grief, but give us the strength to move forward one breath and heartbeat at a time. Lord, make the sleepless nights improve and help to rest well. Restore our energy, our spirit, and our mind. Lord, heal those who are sick. Comfort those who are in pain. Remove doubt from those who are afraid to bring their prayer request to you. Lord, you know our prayers before we even utter a word. Lord, remind us that you know, you are listening, and you answer.

Lord, keep transforming us daily. Keep working in our hearts and minds. In Jesus’ name, amen.
