Bible Verse – Hebrews 4:6-13 NLT
“6 So God’s rest is there for people to enter, but those who first heard this good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God. 7 So God set another time for entering his rest, and that time is today. God announced this through David much later in the words already quoted:
“Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts.”
8 Now if Joshua had succeeded in giving them this rest, God would not have spoken about another day of rest still to come. 9 So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. 10 For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. 11 So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall. 12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.”
Reflection
There is abundant freedom in knowing that nothing (not one thing) is hidden from God. He sees everything thing and He is the one we are accountable to. The good news that is so freeing is that God sent His Son Jesus to wipe every single sin away. For believers, repentance and forgiveness through Christ Jesus is the promised hope that one day when our life is over we will be found in Christ – covered by the blood of Jesus and resting in Him.
Prayer
Father God, we thank you for the opportunity to live and breathe another day. You have been so good to us, even when we were not good to ourselves. Father God, thank you for sending your son Jesus to save us. Thank you for allowing Him to be the perfect sacrifice that covers our sins (a multitude of sin). Thank you for ensuring our eternal future with you.
Lord, there are so many situations where Satan desires to bring up our past failures, but You cleanse us and you make us whole. You give us peace and the freedom to come to you with all our junk – You make our burdens light, you set us free from sin and darkness, and you – you, know us by name. You know every single part of our lives and you still say, come. Lord, there is no one like you. People do good things to and for us, but no one compares to you.
Lord, as we begin this new day help us to keep in mind who you are and what you have done for us. Don’t let us be distracted by the world’s track record but help us to be faithful to you despite our past. Lord, bring forth healing to those who are broken and far off from you. Lord, give them stability in their thoughts and align them with you. Lord, remove generational trauma and cycles that create harm and prevent people from following you. Lord, there are deep wounds and unresolved traumas that are still binding people. Lord, break the chains. Help us all to establish healthy relationships, lifestyles and boundaries. Lord, help us to let go of things that are not good for us, and the things we cannot control. Lord, give us wisdom and insight on how to navigate a healed and whole life in you on this earth. Lord, be with everyone who is grieving today. Touch the hearts of mourners and help them to grieve in a healthy way. Lord, work in us all to lead other people to you. Lord, change our hearts and don’t let us be caught off guard by the devil’s schemes and tactics. Lord, suit us up in the armor of God, and lead us and our conversations today. Use us as you see fit. In Jesus’ name, amen.
