He Is Able To Help Us

Good morning! Today we will finish our reading in Hebrews chapter 2.

Bible Verse – Hebrews 2:16-18 NLT

“16 We also know that the Son did not come to help angels; he came to help the descendants of Abraham. 17 Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then he could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people. 18 Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.”

Reflection

Last week we read one of five warnings for believers in the book of Hebrews. The most significant warning that was given was “listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.” Shortly after we read that Jesus – the son of God is greater than angels, and Jesus came to earth in human flesh to save us from sin and death. Today, we read a little more on Jesus’ mission to come and save us all – the descendants of Abraham, which includes the Gentiles (non-Jewish believers) as written in Galatians 3:28-29 NLT – “There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you.”

He not only came to save us and reconcile us to God, but He came to help us. Help us when we are being tested and tempted. We can always depend on Him to help us in every area of our life. Just ask Him too.

Prayer

Father God, we thank you for your patience with us. We thank you for sending your son Jesus to save us and to help us. Your perfect love for us is incomparable. Your compassion and grace holds us and keeps us steady as we remember your love for us. Lord, we all face trials and are tempted, so we thank you for helping us at our weakest moments and for rescuing us and restoring us time and time again. Lord, give us wisdom and insight to turn away from the temptations we face. Help us to keep our hearts and our minds fixed upon you and what is best in Your eyes. Lord, help us to turn away from those things that try to pull us away from you. Give us hope and peace, discernment and understanding, and comfort in knowing we are doing what is pleasing in Your eyes, especially when we are tempted to do what we want.

Lord, go before us today and make our paths straight. Bless our homes and our families. Continue to instill your teachings and your word in our hearts. Lord, continue to protect us as we go about our business today. Protect our children as they go to school, while they are in school, and as they return home. Lord, cease the wars in other countries and give leaders across the world wisdom on how to help end the wars. Lord, innocent lives have been lost due to violent acts. Lord, comfort family members who have lost their loved ones, who are homeless, and living in fear. Help us to continue to pray for others and to be used by you every day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
