Don’t Drift Away

Good morning! Today we will continue our reading in the book of Hebrews where we are reminded not to drift away.

Bible verse – Hebrews 2:1-4 NLT

“1 So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it. 2 For the message God delivered through angels has always stood firm, and every violation of the law and every act of disobedience was punished. 3 So what makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation that was first announced by the Lord Jesus himself and then delivered to us by those who heard him speak? 4 And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.”

Reflection

Drifting away is a slow process. It is a process where we begin in one place and over time (e.g., seconds, minutes, hours, days, or months), we are no longer in the same place. During the pandemic there were situations that caused many believers to drift away from sitting in church, and from hearing the word consistently. Other ways believers have drifted away include times when young adults move away from home or when tragedy strikes. These examples are not always the case, but there are other reasons why believers drift away. These verses intentionally focus on the need to remember the truth about the salvation we have received through Christ Jesus – God’s son. We must not forget the salvation we have received through Jesus Christ. We must not forget the promises written in scripture and the fact that one day we will be with Him. We must not forget salvation is available for everyone to receive, so let us remember and share the true message of Jesus Christ and how He came to earth to save us and everyone else.

Prayer

Father God, we thank you for blessing us with another day. We thank you for reminding us that you sent your son for us. Without your love and forgiveness we would be hopeless and lost, and bound straight to hell. However, because you sent your son to save us we have hope and we are no longer lost because we have been found in Christ Jesus. Lord, forgive us for the times we have drifted away. Lord, we want to rekindle our relationship with you. We desire to follow and serve you with a surrendered heart, mind, and tongue. Lord, use us as you see fit. Lord, heal us from the things that have caused us to drift away from you. Lord, direct us to the church you have called us to worship you in and serve those you have called us to serve. Lord, touch us and lead us in the way you would have us to go. Lord, help us to be a good example of a Christ follower and live it out truthfully in our lives, in our homes, on our jobs, in our relationships and wherever we may be.
