He Didn’t Forget Them

Good morning!  Throughout scripture, the Lord teaches us tools on being a faithful leader in the church and in the community. Join me as we continue our reading in Acts 20. Have a beautifully blessed day.

Bible Verse – Acts 20:13-17 NLT

13 Paul went by land to Assos, where he had arranged for us to join him, while we traveled by ship. 14 He joined us there, and we sailed together to Mitylene. 15 The next day we sailed past the island of Kios. The following day we crossed to the island of Samos, and a day later we arrived at Miletus.

16 Paul had decided to sail on past Ephesus, for he didn’t want to spend any more time in the province of Asia. He was hurrying to get to Jerusalem, if possible, in time for the Festival of Pentecost. 17 But when we landed at Miletus, he sent a message to the elders of the church at Ephesus, asking them to come and meet him.”

Things to know

Pentecost comes from a Greek derivation that means 50 or 50th day after the Feast of First Fruits (Leviticus 23:16). It is also recognized as the day when Christians celebrate the coming of the promised Holy Spirit. Some may ask, why is it significant or important to remember the dates? I believe it is always important to remember a promise fulfilled (refer to John 15:26).

Reflection

Paul had plans, but he didn’t want to completely over look the church of Ephesus. Paul used an opportunity that allowed him to send for the leaders at the church of Ephesus to join him. While we will read further in Acts tomorrow, as we read further on Paul’s demonstrated leadership. Note, today that Paul incorporated elders from the church he was skipping pass, to ensure they were still being encouraged and felt connected.

Sisters and brothers, I know we have been busy. However, let’s not forget to encourage and bring alongside other believers who need a word or direction spoken into their lives. Let us seek the Lord and ask Him how to guide us in this season and how to reach out to those who need prayer, encouragement in the word, and friendship. Pray for your pastors, elders, and leaders in the church in this season as well.

Prayer

Father God, we thank you for today. We thank you for never leaving us alone. We thank you for other Christian brothers and sisters who reach out and encourage one another in the Lord and not in hate. Lord, we thank you for always shining light in the darkness, exposing lies through truth, and for protecting your children from the attacks of the enemy. Lord, we thank you for your endless love and healing power. Lord, we pray for those suffering in pain. Lord, you know every ache and know how unbearable it can be at times. Lord, heal their body, calm their nervous system, and remind them of your love. Lord, we pray for our nation. Lord, we ask that you keep working in us and change our hearts to reflect you. Lord, we ask that you heal Your church, that you ministry to Your pastors – those You have called. Lord, let their humilty be an example that brings You glory and helps to heal people inside and outside of the church. In Jesus name, amen.
