Good morning! Today, we will begin our reading in Acts chapter 20.
Bible Verse – Acts 20:1-6 NLT
“1 When the uproar was over, Paul sent for the believers and encouraged them. Then he said good-bye and left for Macedonia. 2 While there, he encouraged the believers in all the towns he passed through. Then he traveled down to Greece, 3 where he stayed for three months. He was preparing to sail back to Syria when he discovered a plot by some Jews against his life, so he decided to return through Macedonia.
4 Several men were traveling with him. They were Sopater son of Pyrrhus from Berea; Aristarchus and Secundus from Thessalonica; Gaius from Derbe; Timothy; and Tychicus and Trophimus from the province of Asia. 5 They went on ahead and waited for us at Troas. 6 After the Passover ended, we boarded a ship at Philippi in Macedonia and five days later joined them in Troas, where we stayed a week.”
Recap
In chapter 19, we read about a man who was angry because his wealth was being impacted by believers. To be exact, this is what was said, “Gentlemen, you know that our wealth comes from this business. 26 But as you have seen and heard, this man Paul has persuaded many people that handmade gods aren’t really gods at all.”
- The businessman’s speech incited an unlawful assembly.
- People were angry because of one man and some didn’t even know why they were there.
- Eventually, the mayor calmed them down and the people dispersed.
- The Lord protected Paul and his followers without them needing to do anything.
Reflection
Paul knew the anxiety that may have been felt by believers. Paul as a godly leader, reached out and encouraged them and other believers along his journey to Troas. Even in the face of death threats, Paul continued his mission and kept the faith. He knew his mission was greater than his personal comfort.
Sisters and brothers, again, there is a lot going on in the world today. Do not lose focus on the fact that God has called us to be light in the darkness and salt in the earth. Greater is He who is in us. Keep praying, keep praising, and keep trusting the Lord to come through.
Here’s a few verses from Psalm 33:20-22 to meditate on today:
“20 We put our hope in the Lord. He is our help and our shield.
21 In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name.
22 Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in you alone.”
– Psalm 33:20-22
When we put our hope in the Lord we can rest assured that He has everything under control. The Lord is working and he is trustworthy.
Keep praying.
Encourage your family, friends and others in the word of the Lord.
Prayer
Father God, we thank you for your unfailing love toward us. We thank you for the hope that we have in you. Lord, thank you for ensuring no weapon formed against us will prosper. Lord, forgive us for our behavior that did not represent you well. Lord, we thank you for your mercy on us when dissension was stirred in your church and allowed the enemy to divide your church. Lord, we also thank you for the sifting that took place, where it became easier to see wolves in sheep’s clothing. Lord, thank you for opening up our eyes and for allowing us to hear your voice beckoning us back to you. Lord, you are so good to us. You are forever on our lips and we are grateful that you did not leave us to die. Lord, as we continue our week we ask that you pour your Holy Spirit into us and breathe new life. Remove the anxiety, the disruption of our day, and shield us from the attacks of the enemy. Lord, we know you can move mountains and move on behalf of your people to heal our nation and restore us back to you again. Lord, lead us. Lord, place your hands upon us and cause us to turn to love instead of hate. Disrupt Satan and his followers from plotting against your children. Cover and shield us, and remind us of your word and your promises…keep them fresh in our minds and on our hearts. In Jesus name, amen.
