Good morning! Today, we are finishing up our reading in Acts chapter fourteen. It is at the point where Paul and Barnabas had completed their work and now it was time for a debrief.
Bible Verse – Acts 14:26-28 NLT
“26 From Attalia they sailed back to Antioch, where they had been committed to the grace of God for the work they had now completed. 27 On arriving there, they gathered the church together and reported all that God had done through them and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles. 28 And they stayed there a long time with the disciples.”
Reflection
- Paul and Barnabas’ first missionary journey crossed at least 700 miles of land and approximately 500 miles by sea.
- Their journey was one – two years, and God’s presence was with them.
- They shared the Good News with Jews and Gentiles, and many of them became believers and part of a local church in their region.
- It is believed that Paul wrote the book of Galatians shortly after this trip.
While many of us are not directly missionaries out doing missions around the world, we are missionaries in our family, on our jobs, in our neighborhood, cities, state, and the world. We are on the mission field and the world needs authentic Christians like never before. With so many false “Christian” witnesses, the world questions if Christian’s are reading and doing what the word of God says. Sisters and brothers, there will be a time when Jesus will come and separate the wheat from the chaff. Make sure when your Christianity is put to the fire that you don’t come out smelling like smoke.
Are we telling others what God has done through Christ Jesus and in our lives?
The harvest is plentiful. As long as there is breath in your lungs and a heartbeat in your heart, keep doing the work the Lord has called you to do.
Prayer
Father God, thank you for this beautiful morning. Thank you for the journeys in our lives and for the opportunity to share what you are doing in our lives with others. Lord, forgive us for the time(s) when we professed to be Christians but our behavior(s) did not match Your word. Lord, we know that we are still learning and growing, but we don’t want that to be an excuse for not doing the things you have called us to do. Lord, realign our hearts, minds, and help us to work towards what you desire for us to do. Lord, we want to be effective witnesses for you. Lord, may you receive all the glory for the lives that will be transformed because we followed You. Lord, equip us in Your armor today. Lead us on the missionary field, make us bold and courageous, and may all the false witnesses be defeated in our midst. Lord, because You are the only One in control – have Your way in our nation and world. Use us as your vessel to do what is right, to love mercy, and walk humbly with You. In Jesus name, amen.
