He Started Walking

Good morning! Have you ever been in a situation where you were missing something? Maybe you searched all around and you couldn’t find what you were missing. Then you later discovered that you had what you were missing, but didn’t realize it. Today, we will continue our reading in Acts chapter fourteen and you might see something that you had all along – now you can use it. Enjoy today’s devotion.

Bible Verse – Acts 14:8-13 NLT

While they were at Lystra, Paul and Barnabas came upon a man with crippled feet. He had been that way from birth, so he had never walked. He was sitting 9 and listening as Paul preached. Looking straight at him, Paul realized he had faith to be healed. 10 So Paul called to him in a loud voice, “Stand up!” And the man jumped to his feet and started walking.

11 When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they shouted in their local dialect, “These men are gods in human form!” 12 They decided that Barnabas was the Greek god Zeus and that Paul was Hermes, since he was the chief speaker. 13 Now the temple of Zeus was located just outside the town. So the priest of the temple and the crowd brought bulls and wreaths of flowers to the town gates, and they prepared to offer sacrifices to the apostles.”

Key Points

  • The man was crippled in his feet, lame since birth, and he never walked.
  • The man heard the message and had faith to be healed.
  • Paul had been given spiritual eyes to see the man’s faith and the Lord gave Paul the power to heal him.

Reflection

Paul and Barnabas were new to the region of Lystra. Yet, they were sent/guided there by the Holy Spirit. They continued to preach the Good News about Jesus Christ and on this very day, a man who was crippled for years heard the word of God and he was healed.

In Luke 9:1-2 it says, 1 One day Jesus called together his twelve disciples and gave them power and authority to cast out all demons and to heal all diseases. Then he sent them out to tell everyone about the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.”  While Paul and Barnabas were not the initial twelve disciples who walked with Jesus, they were called by the Lord to go share the Good News. Of course, the Lord never sends us out ill-equipped, He gave them the same power and authority to cast out all demons and to heal diseases.

Sisters and brothers, the same authority and power that the Lord gave them is the same power He gives to those who believe and who He calls. God gives us many spiritual gifts that we haven’t begun to use, but He has equipped us to use them in His strength and for His purposes.

In these verses, remember it all started with two people being obedient to the Lord’s call, the Holy Spirit’s leading and perseverance in spite of persecution. Sisters and brothers, someone is waiting for you to be obedient to the Lord’s call on your life – to bring them the Good News, to bring healing and deliverance in the name of Jesus.

It’s time for you to step into your purpose.

Use what God has given you.

Prayer

Father God we thank you for your mighty power to heal. Lord, you cured sickness, diseases, and healed those with disabilities in the past. Lord, we believe that you are still healing people today. Father, we ask that You heal those who are suffering from infirmities. Lord, touch those who need a miracle today. Lord, update the medical records, increase the faith of your children, and allow others to see and believe. Lord, forgive us when we have given up on your ability to heal. Lord, we have listened to medical reports and because we know people have died we have some how lost hope. Lord, we don’t want to be hopeless. Lord, renew our faith and our trust in you. Lord, equip us to share the Good News, heal the sick, and cast out all demons. Direct our steps and take the lead in our lives. Send us wherever you desire for us to go, and Lord, we will trust You with all the details. Keep changing us. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray, amen!
