They Were Filled

Good morning! Have you ever been a part of something that was so great that it brought joy to your heart? Have you ever worked hard for a great outcome and it turned out well? Today we will read about the fruit of Paul’s and Barnabas’ obedience to the Lord. Join me as we finish reading Acts 13:48-52 NLT.

Bible Verse – Acts 13:48-52 NLT

48 When the Gentiles heard this, they were very glad and thanked the Lord for his message; and all who were chosen for eternal life became believers. 49 So the Lord’s message spread throughout that region.

50 Then the Jews stirred up the influential religious women and the leaders of the city, and they incited a mob against Paul and Barnabas and ran them out of town. 51 So they shook the dust from their feet as a sign of rejection and went to the town of Iconium. 52 And the believers were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.”

Things to Remember

  • Paul was formerly known as Saul, a Jewish leader who persecuted Christians.
  • Paul gave his life to Christ and never stopped serving the Lord.
  • The Lord didn’t limit Paul because of his past. God used Paul’s past to help others understand the Good News.
  • Paul’s obedience to the Lord and the leading of the Holy Spirit took him on different missionary journeys to places that had not heard the Good News.

Reflection

The message of the Good News spread throughout the region. Lives were changed for both Jews and Gentiles (non-Jews). Paul and Barnabas were persecuted for sharing the Good News, but in comparison with the number of people who believed it didn’t hinder their ministry – they continued with the mission that the Lord had them on.

Sisters and brothers, there may be those who reject the message of the Good News, but don’t let that deter you from doing what God has called you to do. People may try to discredit you, but don’t let a man’s/woman’s word override God’s plan for you. God’s word is greater than their opinion of you. Your life is greater than your past. You are being developed for something greater. Keep pursuing God and His plan for your life.

Things to Ponder

Do you remember how grateful you were when you first accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord and Savior? Remember the fire 🔥 that stirred up inside of you when you surrendered your life to Christ? Today, will you ask the Lord to renew that joy in your heart ❤ and activate the Holy Spirit that is within you? Will you trust God’s plan and move in obedience with His plan for your life, for your future?

Prayer

Father God, in the name of Jesus we come to you in prayer. Lord, we ask that you be with us today. Lord, we ask that whatever comes our way that we will not lose focus of who You are or Your love for us. Lord, we need you today. Lord, we need Your presence in our homes, in our relationships, in our churches, on our jobs, and in the leaders around the world 🌎. Lord, you know our needs, our prayer requests, and our hearts 💕. Lord, be with each person who has been given news that their medical condition is terminal. Lord, give them peace of mind and fullness of Your Spirit to ease their thoughts and remove their fears. Lord, remind them of the hope that they have in you. Lord, but we won’t stop praying for a miracle. We know that You are a miracle worker and that You are still performing miracles today. So, Lord in the name of Jesus we ask not in vain, but in knowing how powerful You are to heal. Lord, let them touch the hem of Your garment and be healed in Your mighty name. Lord, we pray for those who are going in for appointments today. Lord, direct the physicians and nurses who will be caring for your children. Give them insight and wisdom to make the right medical diagnosis and treatment plans. Lord, keep working in us to share the Good News with others. Lord, be with authentic Christian leaders, teachers, preachers, and missionaries as they press forward in you and what you have purposed them to do. Lord, may we be examples of your love wherever we may go. In Jesus name we pray amen.
