Good morning! Every day, the Lord brings new mercies. I pray that no matter what you are facing that the Lord will be with you today and that He will make His presence known. Enjoy today’s devotion and your day.
Bible Verse – Acts 9:36-38 NLT
“36 In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing good and helping the poor. 37 About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room. 38 Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, “Please come at once!””
Key points:
- The name Tabitha (in Aramaic) and Dorcas (in Greek) mean gazelle.
- Tabitha was a disciple.
- Lydda and Joppa were about 12 miles apart.
Reflection
Peter was doing the work of the Lord traveling from place to place.Tabitha was in Joppa doing the work of the Lord. We don’t know how Tabitha came to know the Lord or when she surrender her life to Him, but the message of Jesus Christ got to her. She was so devoted she was considered a disciple.
Sisters and brothers, Tabitha was a faithful believer and servant until her death. She was always doing good and helping the poor. While in these verses we see that she became sick and died, the faith of the people continued – other disciples were led to send for Peter who was 12 miles away in Lydda to heal Tabitha.
A few take aways for today:
- Continue to do the work of the Lord until He calls you home to be with Him.
- Live a life that impacts the people around you to also believe and stand in faith after you are gone.
- Believe Jesus Christ can still perform miracles.
- Even when healing doesn’t come on this side of heaven trust His plan, the Lord will heal and make one completely whole. So we can look forward to the day written about in Revelations 21:4 “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”
Prayer
Father God, we thank you for your son Jesus Christ. We thank you for salvation and for your promises written ages ago. We have hope because of Christ Jesus. We thank you and praise you for loving us unconditionally and for sending Jesus Christ to save us from our sins so that we can be reconciled back to you. Lord, forgive us for the times when we were not walking in step with you. Forgive us for the times when we followed our own gods instead of surrendering our lives and following You God. Lord, today – right now, we give you our lives. Have your way within us and around us. We want to be Your faithful servants no matter the cost. Help us to remain in you no matter the storm, trial, joy, loss, fear, or disappointment. Bind the tactics of the enemy/Satan when he tries to discourage us or lead us to fear. Lord, heal those who are sick. Lord, comfort those whose hearts are aching today. Bind the wounds of the broken. Restore the things that have been lost. Continue to send aid to Turkey and Syria. Heal our land and give us Your heart of compassion and peace. Lord, keep us anchored in you. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray, amen!
Keep pressing forward – in Jesus’ name!
