Good morning! Over the past few post, we read Peter’s first sermon to the people. We learned that because of his faithfulness and obedience to God 3,000 people became believers in Christ.Join us today to see what transpired after.
Bible Verse – Acts 2:42-47 NLT
“42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”
REFLECTION
Below are some key points in verses 42-47 that I feel should be pointed out today:
- All the believers were together. They were on one accord.
- They had everything in common.
- Every day they continued to meet.
- They broke bread together in their homes.
- They praised God.
- They enjoyed favor from all people.
- People were being saved daily.
Sisters and brothers, the Holy Spirit was active and moving. The apostles and believers continued on the mission, their purpose to go “19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20). They remained on one accord.
Let us:
- stick to the same common goal – to share the gospel message with anyone who will hear it
- continue to meet with our brothers and sisters of the faith to continue to be strengthened, held accountable, prayed for, and encouraged
- praise God daily and enjoy the favor He gives
- see God work and watch Him change things and people as we remain faithful.
PRAYER
Father God we thank and praise you for all that you have done. We thank you for blessing us with another sunrise, for your glorious beauty and light. Lord, we are in awe of how you continue to bless and keep us in your peace even when things around us seem to be out of control. Lord, you know us better than we know ourselves, but you haven’t given up on us. Lord, thank you for never leaving or forsaking us. Thank you for saving us. Thank you for forgiveness of sins. Thank you for sealing us with the promise and for new life in you. Lord, you are our everything.
Lord, we pray for those who are still struggling with making a decision to follow you. Lord, we pray for those who are grieving or depressed and ask that you help them through whatever they may be experiencing. Lord, be with those who have strayed away from the church and help them to use this time to reconnect with you and to look for and engage with a church, so that they may be fed your word and to find the right church for them and their family. Lord, make us new. We want to be used by you, Lord. Here are our hands, feet, eyes, mouth, mind and body to be used by you. Have your way. In Jesus name, amen.
