Happy Wednesday! Have you ever heard the saying, “act your age not your shoe size?” I’m sure many Prince fans have heard that statement in one of his songs. What I want to point out in using that statement is the call to be mature. Apostle Paul often used references calling believers to mature in faith. Noting that at some point in their Christian walk they should grow from baby Christians to mature Christian believers. Join me as we review verses 15-21 over the next two days where Apostle Paul calls Christians to walk and live lives pleasing to God.
Bible verse – Philippians 3:15-16 NLT
“15 Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. 16 But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.
Yesterday, we read verses 12-14 which called us to continue to press on and pursue Christ. Apostle Paul reminded us that he had not obtained perfection, but he still had more to learn and do for Christ. He continued to remind us to forget the past and look forward to what lies ahead in Christ Jesus.
Sisters and brothers there are many things the enemy likes to remind us of. He enjoys hitting the rewind button on our lives. You know if we went back to season 16 episode 6, or season 21 the birthday episode, or season 40 episode 10 when it seemed like we made the worst mistake in our life. Fortunately, for us the seasons and episodes may replay, but for believers in Christ we see a stamp that says, “the blood of the lamb covered this season – forgiven!”
No matter our past failures or accomplishments, the Lord will use them for His glory but he still calls us to mature in faith. To grow from being infants to mature Christians. We should no longer do or respond to things the way we did when we first came to Christ, but even if you are -today, the Lord is giving us all an opportunity to press on and pursue the things of Christ – growing spiritually and learning to respond like Christ more each day.
So, sisters and brothers hold on to the progress that you have already made because of Christ, but keep pushing forward in Christ. Even when you don’t understand everything that is written in scripture, keep praying for God to reveal and make it plain to you. It is Christ who works within us, who changes us – we cannot do it alone.
Keep pressing on and pursuing Christ.
Father God, thank you for loving us when we weren’t loveable and at times when we didn’t even love ourselves. Father, thank you for sending your Son Jesus Christ to save us – the perfect lamb that was sacrificed for our sins. Lord, forgive us for the times when we took our salvation for granted. Lord, today we commit to growing closer to you, to maturing in our faith and allowing you to use any part of our stories for your glory and to set others free. Lord, continue to equip us and put inside of us a desire to grow beyond our current stage in our Christian faith. Lord, unveil our eyes and our thinking so that we will be aligned with your plan, purpose and call to share the Good News. Lord, empty us out and pour all of you into every area of our lives. In Jesus name, amen.
