Good morning! When I think about my past and trace it to where I am today, I noticed everything that I experienced in my past has brought me to the place where I am today. Not only in education or work, but in the maturing of my faith. God didn’t waste one detail, tear, laugh or prayer in my life. He will not waste yours either. Join me as we continue our reading in Philippians.
Bible verse: Philippians 1:12-19 (NLT)
“12 And I want you to know, my dear brothers and sisters,[c] that everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News. 13 For everyone here, including the whole palace guard,[d] knows that I am in chains because of Christ. 14 And because of my imprisonment, most of the believers[e] here have gained confidence and boldly speak God’s message[f] without fear.
15 It’s true that some are preaching out of jealousy and rivalry. But others preach about Christ with pure motives. 16 They preach because they love me, for they know I have been appointed to defend the Good News. 17 Those others do not have pure motives as they preach about Christ. They preach with selfish ambition, not sincerely, intending to make my chains more painful to me. 18 But that doesn’t matter. Whether their motives are false or genuine, the message about Christ is being preached either way, so I rejoice. And I will continue to rejoice. 19 For I know that as you pray for me and the Spirit of Jesus Christ helps me, this will lead to my deliverance.“
It is no coincidence that Paul who previously persecuted Christians is now one of the greatest speakers/writers of the New Testament. However, at the time of his writing to the Philippians he had no idea the extent or power in which it would be used. It was all in service to Christ Jesus.
God is using you today and whatever it is, it has the ability to impact others for years to come.
Paul continued to encourage them. Paul ensured everyone knew that he was in prison, but not for the same reason as others. He was there because of Christ – for sharing the Good News with others. Yet, even while in chains it did not hinder Paul’s ability to share the Good News – everyone knew what Paul believed.
Question: What is hindering you today?
Sisters and brothers, have you ever been in a situation where your trial and faith in that trial encouraged others? Have you ever been encouraged or have increased faith after seeing or hearing another person go through a trial – full of faith? Paul’s faith, boldness, and courage did that for the Philippians but also for so many others. Sisters and brothers don’t allow “inabilities” to limit you. We have a limitless God who can do the impossible making our inability His ability – so that we can do all things in Christ Jesus.
- What has Christ Jesus put on your heart to do?
- Will you trust him with your circumstances?
- Will you lean-in to Christ so that you will remain in faith to your call/purpose?
Lord Jesus we thank you for causing Paul to be blinded on that Damascus road (Acts 9) and given his sight back by you. Lord wherever we are blind to the things that concern you – open our eyes and draw us nearer to you. Lord, you have been faithful in leading us through our most difficult situations and we know you will be faithful in times ahead. Lord, continue to lead us. Lord give us confidence and the ability to boldly speak God’s message without fear. In Jesus name, amen.
