It Was A Bribe

Happy Wednesday! As a kid did you ever do something wrong and then tried to cover it up? Maybe you broke something or disobeyed your parents and tried to keep the truth from them. Maybe you covered it up with a lie or by convincing someone else to lie too. Well if your parent(s) were like my mom, she always found out the truth. She said, she had eyes in the back of her head that could see what we were doing. Today, we are going to read about a cover up that has led many astray. Enjoy today’s reading.

BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 28 :11-15
11 As the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and told the leading priests what had happened. 12 A meeting with the elders was called, and they decided to give the soldiers a large bribe. 13 They told the soldiers, “You must say, ‘Jesus’ disciples came during the night while we were sleeping, and they stole his body.’ 14 If the governor hears about it, we’ll stand up for you so you won’t get in trouble.” 15 So the guards accepted the bribe and said what they were told to say. Their story spread widely among the Jews, and they still tell it today.”

REFLECTION
The elders were at it again, bribing people to lie and be a false witness. These were the devote religious leaders who should have encouraged the group to speak the truth. They tried everything to cover the truth. Their lies have led many astray, causing many to continue to search for or wait for the Messiah – but Jesus the Messiah, our Savior and Lord has already come.

Sisters and brothers, don’t live your life as though Christ is dead. That is a tactic the enemy used to keep people in bondage. Jesus Christ is alive and if you accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior, he has set you free and the Holy Spirit, is living inside of you.

PRAYER
Father God, thank you for revealing your Son after He had risen from the dead. Thank you for creditable witnesses who shared truth about the ressurection of Jesus. Lord, thank for the promise of salvation and reconciliation. Thank you for forgiveness of sins and for unveiling our eyes to see and understand the truth. Lord, you are so gracious toward us. Continue to work in our hearts and minds. Lead us to a place of stability in our walk and faith in you. Lord, guide us in every aspect of our lives. Direct our path and thoughts. Lord, be with all the children who are going to school today and this week. Lord, cover them, protect them from harm and give them peace. Lord, remove anxiety and fear from their hearts. Lord, we pray for parents who are sending their kids to school. Lord, give them wisdom, discernment, peace and guidance through this school year. Help them to raise their kids with love and to know you. Lord, cease bullying and protect kids from predators. Lord, we pray for the teachers and schools. Lord, put the right teachers in place and help them to teach. Lord, keep the schools safe from attacks. Encamp your angels around the school, classrooms and children. Be with us today and make your presence known. In Jesus name, amen!
