Happy Tuesday! Today we are finishing Matthew 23. Enjoy today’s reading and your day.
BIBLE VERSE – MATTHEW 23:34-36
“34 “Therefore, I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers of religious law. But you will kill some by crucifixion, and you will flog others with whips in your synagogues, chasing them from city to city. 35 As a result, you will be held responsible for the murder of all godly people of all time—from the murder of righteous Abel to the murder of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you killed in the Temple between the sanctuary and the altar. 36 I tell you the truth, this judgment will fall on this very generation.“
REFLECTION
Jesus informed the religious leaders and Pharisees of their fate. Jesus also looked upon Jerusalem with lament (grief or sorrow), because while many prophets and messengers had been sent before and while Jesus was standing right there in their face they refused to see (even having eyes – they were blind) and refused to listen (even having ears – they were deaf).
Sisters and brothers, the Lord desires to gather us “as a hen protects their chicks beneath their wings”. I challenge you this week to seek the Lord. Ask Him to open your eyes to see and your ears to hear Him. Allow Him to protect you. Stay attuned to what God is saying to you, pray and be obedient to what He is calling you to do.
PRAYER
Father God, thank you for sending your prophets, messengers first to point us back to you, and your One and Only Son to save us and point us back to you. Lord, we get lost and we struggle to find our way, but Lord you are the only way. Lord, forgive us when we fall short. Lord, forgive us for knowing the truth and at times are not willing to walk in your truth. Lord, we don’t want to be lukewarm Christians anymore. Lord, we seek to know you more. We desire to live in you. Lord, change us. Lord, as you work within us, teach us to love like you love. Lord, help us to be compassionate and patient. Lord, ignite Your fire within us. Lord, we want to burn with passion for you and your kingdom. Lord, be with those who are grieving and comfort them today. Lord, be with those who are trapped in bondage and need to be freed, Lord release them. Lord, be with families who are struggling and broken. Lord, heal and restore them. Lord, become the center of their homes, marriages and parenting. Lord, strengthen the widows and orphans, provide for them. Lord, you have called us out of the darkness and into the light, lead us. Remove the things that are distracting our eyes and sound proofing our ears from hearing you. Lord, help us to be your hands and feet. Lord, teach us to be Your church in every way. In Jesus name, amen.
