To Accomplish His Purpose

Happy Friday! The Lord is always faithful to accomplish his purpose. Trust Him. Have a good weekend.

BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 5:17-20
17 Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. 19 So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.

20 “But I warn you—unless your righteousness is better than the righteousness of the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven!”

REFLECTION
These verses demonstrates Jesus’ relationship to the law of God. Jesus did not present a rival system but a true fulfillment of the Law and Prophets (the entire Old Testament) in contrast with the Pharisees’ traditions .

Sisters and brothers, the righteousness that they were seeking was insufficient to enter the kingdom Jesus offered and that He continues to offer to us. Jesus fulfilled the Law by obeying it perfectly and fulfilled the prophets’ predictions of the Messiah and the Kingdom.

In Romans 3:21-26 it further states, “21 But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses[in the law] and the prophets long ago. 22 We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. 23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. 24 Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. 25 For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, 26 for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he makes sinners right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.”

As God begins or continues to reveal himself to you, you will begin to understand His love, His compassion, His grace, His judgment, His mercy, His forgiveness and His faithfulness to His children (us).

The word says, it’s only through our belief in Jesus Christ that we are made right. So this weekend and beyond, put off self-righteousness and extend the love and compassion you have received from Christ to others. And, spend time with God.

PRAYER
Father God, thank you for an opportunity to understand your truth. Lord, we want to be more like you. Lord, we want to follow you, not to simply be religious, but to have a sincere and truthful relationship you. Lord, purify our hearts so that we can be made new in you. Lord rid us of self-righteousness and guide us to pursue the righteousness that pleases you. Lord, we want to enter the kingdom of heaven and worship you forever. Guide us through this life on earth. Lord, we want to obey all your commands. We want to be Kingdom bound. Teach us your ways and soften our hearts to hear from you so that we will be with you for eternity in heaven. Lord, we lift up those who do not know you. Teach us how to reach the broken, least and lost. In Jesus name, amen!
