Beauty From Within

Good morning! Beauty is more than a name for a Disney character, according to Google dictionary it is a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight. But if it is especially by sight, how do we see beauty within. Join me as we continue in 1 Peterchapter 3.

BIBLE VERSE – 1 Peter 3:3-6 NLT

3 Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. 5 This is how the holy women of old made themselves beautiful. They put their trust in God and accepted the authority of their husbands. 6 For instance, Sarah obeyed her husband, Abraham, and called him her master. You are her daughters when you do what is right without fear of what your husbands might do.

REFLECTION

Beauty is only skin deep is a reference to a person’s character being more important than how they look. While it is nice to look good and present yourself well, Peter is pointing out that a woman’s character should speak for itself. That our beauty from within should outweigh our beauty on the outside. If our character reflects godly character, then God’s beauty will overflow from us attracting many to us simply because of our character and the lifestyle we live.

Sisters do not be overly concerned about outward beauty, that we forget to focus our attention on our inner beauty. Peter is not saying women should not wear makeup or fancy clothes, he is pointing out that there are greater concerns than our outer appearance and that’s our inner character. It is time for us to put our complete trust in God, that trust will transform us into the women and, for those who are married, the wives God has called us to be.

Things to ponder:

Ladies, do we need to check our speech, the way we talk to our spouses and those around us? Maybe we need to spend a little more time in the word and less time in the mirror. Whatever it is, lets ask the Lord to help us and change us from the inside out. Because we can trust God with our lives and in our marriages, allow him to change us so that our spouses and others can see the beauty of the Lord in us and how he has changed us.

PRAYER

Father God, thank you for your word. Lord, thank you for allowing us to put our complete trust in you. Lord, thank you for the love you have shown us and the peace you give when we follow you with our whole heart. Lord, forgive us for the times when we sought other things instead of seeking you first. Lord, there are many things that we wish we could do over, but Lord thank you for forgiveness which allows us to do things better than before. Lord, help us to be beautiful within. Lord, may our beauty be a reflection of who you are and your love. Lord, we pray for women who are struggling in their marriages. Lord, you know every detail. Lord, comfort them and give them peace. Lord, rekindle marriages around the world and attract husbands back to their wives and wives back to their husbands. Lord, we pray for situations of abuse, divorce and abandonment. Lord, bring healing to the hearts that have been broken. Lord, restore them back to you. Lord, remove the bitter roots that have settled in because of brokenness. Lord, we lift up all women around the world and ask that you speak to their hearts today and encourage them in faith. Bless their lives and bring lasting peace. Lord, help us to do what is right, without fear. Continue to change us and help us to trust you more. In Jesus name, amen.
