Happy Monday! Today is the a great day to start the week by giving thanks. As I read today’s verses, I recalled the term “giving thanks”. There are often times that we give to give, but a grateful heart gives because they are thankful. Paul, ministered to the Corinthians about all the things that Christ has done for us. We have so much to be thankful for. Join me as we begin chapter 16.

“Now regarding your question about the money being collected for God’s people in Jerusalem. You should follow the same procedure I gave to the churches in Galatia. ² On the first day of each week, you should each put aside a portion of the money you have earned. Don’t wait until I get there and then try to collect it all at once. ³ When I come, I will write letters of recommendation for the messengers you choose to deliver your gift to Jerusalem. ⁴ And if it seems appropriate for me to go along, they can travel with me.” 1 Corinthians 16:1-4 NLT

Paul provided consistent instructions in Galatia and Corinthia regarding giving to Jerusalem and the church. Paul knew the importance of financial support and consistent behavioral practices to help with the ministry.

Sisters and brothers there are opportunities all around us to support the local church, missionaries and ministers around the world. We don’t need to know every detail, but we do need to find out how we can use our talents/gifts and finances to support the church.

• Do you give of your talents, spiritual gifts, or finances to help the local church, missionaries or ministries? _______ If not, what prevents you from giving?
• As we prepare for a week of giving thanks, how can you give this week? _______(e.g., financially, time, serve at a local food bank or shelter).

Father God, thank you for the ability to partake in the activities of the local church and ministries around the world. Lord, you know the needs of your local church. Lord, you know how difficult it is for churches and missionaries to receive consistent funding for the ministry. Heavenly Father we ask that you give us a heart to support our local churches, ministries and missionaries around the world. Lord, we desire to please you and to help increase the churches ability to reach the lost, least and last. Lord, there is no one greater than You and there is no greater reason than to equip and build the church. Lord, help us to give from our hearts so that more people will know about you, so others will continue to be equipped and to ensure the expansion of your work here on earth. Lord, be with those who are unable to give financially but desire to give. Lord, you know their hearts. Lord, help us to care for the needs of others. Lord, use our gifts and talents in the church to reach believers and nonbelievers. Encourage and equip all of us to do something for the kingdom every day. In Jesus name, amen.
