Happy Monday! Over the past two weeks we discussed various spiritual gifts that God gives. In reviewing those gifts, Paul explained to the Corinthians that spiritual gifts are given to help each other. In 1 Corinthians chapter 12, verses 12 through 13, Paul begins to explain how those gifts are used in the body of Christ. Join me as we continue reading chapter 12.

“¹² The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. ¹³ Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles,^[e] some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.^[f]” 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 NLT

In the beginning God made man and woman in his image. God knitted us in our mother’s womb. Before we were born God knew us. God made every human body, which has many parts. The body of Christ ‘the church’ is one unit, united in Christ working together using the various spiritual gifts to strengthen the church and one another.

Sisters and brothers, no matter our background, our past or failures once we believe and accept Christ as our Savior and Lord we receive salvation and the baptism of the Holy Spirit and we share the same Spirit.

We have many choices, but will you choose to allow the Holy Spirit to move within you?

• Will you allow the Holy Spirit to give you discernment in the choices you make?
• Will you use the spiritual gifts that have been given to you?
• Will you become an effective part of the body of believers?

Father God, thank you for the gifts you give us to build up the body of Christ – Your church. Lord, thank you for your grace and love toward each of us. Lord, you have been faithful in many ways. Lord, thank you for your loving us unconditionally and at times when we didn’t want to use our gifts. Lord, thank you for extending grace and for correcting us when we misuse our gifts or fail to help the body of Christ. Lord, we want to be responsible and diligent with our gifts. We want to be an active part of the body of Christ and not a limb that should be dismembered because it’s not useful, dying, infected by the world or dead. Lord, make us come to life. Heal us from the things that keep us in fear and trapped into thinking our gifts cannot be used. Lord, use us in our homes, marriages, rearing of children, in our families and in the church. Lord, direct us and show us how and when to use what you have freely given to us. Lord, be our rock and firm foundation. In Jesus name, amen.
