Good morning! As a little kid, my mother would take my brother and I to the Pacific Ocean to play at the beach. We would spend time playing in the water and building sand castles. We would build a castle, but it was never complete without a moat built around it and a trail that led to the beach waves. It was exciting to see the waves come in and water slowly fill up the moat. But as the evening came, the tide began to change. The waves got a little higher, had a little more force and even though we tried to save the castle, before we knew it the moat eroded and the castle was no more. Our efforts couldn’t compare to the mighty force of the ocean waves. Enjoy today’s reading as we continue where we left off yesterday.
“26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”
28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 for he taught with real authority—quite unlike their teachers of religious law.” Matthew 7:26-29 NLT
Yesterday, we were instructed to build on the rock. Our rock and foundation is the word of God. Keep building your life on the firm foundation, so that when the waves of life crash over you, your faith will not erode.
Stay focused. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Stay amazed by Jesus’ teachings (just like the crowd) and live accordingly.
Father God, we thank you for the firm foundation we have in you. Thank you for your love and mercy toward us. Lord, you are the One consistent and faithful thing we have in this world. Lord, keep us amazed by your teachings. Lord, penetrate our hearts and minds so that we may remain focused on you. Help us to see things clearly. Help us to see you in all things. Lord, protect us and keep us attuned to your direction and will for our lives. Lord, be with all the students going back to school this week. Lord, keep them safe. Keep them motivated in class. Lord, remind them that you love them. Lord, we lift up the teachers, administrators, staff members and the district. Lord, give them wisdom and understanding on the appropriate ways to teach the students, communicate with parents and remain faithful to the word of God. Lord, protect the students from predators and protect the teachers from violence. Lord, we pray that you will scatter any plans that would harm children or teachers. Lord, give us favor today as we go throughout the day. In Jesus name, amen.
Stay amazed! Keep trusting! Keep praying!
