Be Real

Good morning! The Lord of our lives loves us with unconditional love. He doesn’t waste a day teaching us how great He is, how loving He is, how merciful He is, or how precious we are to Him. He lets us sit at His feet and learn His precepts. He is a loving Father who corrects and guides us. Lord, thank you for your instructions and course correction in our lives. Enjoy today’s devotion.

16 “And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get. 17 But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face. 18 Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.” – Matthew 6:16-18 NLT

Jesus continued to point out the difference in doing things for God versus doing things to obtain glory and praise from others. In these verses Jesus was pointing out how the Pharisees would fast to appear righteous or spiritual, but in their heart and outwardly they drew attention to themselves, an intentional act of bringing glory to themselves.

Jesus is clearly pointing out that there are things that we do in relationship and in secret before God. God sees and knows everything. He sees our heart and motives. If you are fasting, may your time with the Lord be fruitful. If you are following the will of God and His plan for your life, then praise God because His plans are greater than our own. If you are still waiting to hear from God, keep praying, listening for His instructions and trust Him as He guides your path. In all that you do bring honor and glory to our Father in heaven. Be real!

Father God we thank you. We praise you because you are Holy and worthy of praise. Lord, continue to teach us your ways. Lord, forgive us when we bring attention to ourselves rather than pointing to the One who gives us salvation and redemption, offers forgiveness and restoration, and blesses us with gifts and talents. Lord, you know us. Help us to bring glory to you. Lord, we lift up those who are hurting and struggling today. Lord, bring them peace. Lord, we lift up the missionaries in the field sharing your gospel message and we ask that you strengthen them and give them peace. Lord, we pray for Christians around the world to stand firm on your word and to live a life that pleases you. Lord, humble us where we need to be humbled. Strengthen us where we are weak. Change us Lord. In Jesus name, amen.

Keep praying! Keep praying! Keep praying!
