He Is Named

Happy Friday! As we close out this week and look forward to the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior, I want to share a scripture from the book of Isaiah.

For a child has been born for us,
    a son given to us;
authority rests upon his shoulders;
    and he is named
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 NRSV

Will you allow him to be your counselor and your perfect peace? ____

Father God, time and time again we are reminded of your faithfulness to a disobedient nation. Lord, thank you for keeping your promise and for your provision. Lord, when you could have destroyed us, you elected to send your Son to save us. Lord, it easy for us to become distracted by the day-to-day tasks or seasonal shuffle, but Lord we want to experience your love and peace. Lord, open our eyes and allow us to see more of you each day. Lord, send your Holy Spirit to comfort those who mourn, to strengthen the discouraged, to breathe life into those who are overwhelmed and to shine light in dark places. Lord, be with those who are or will be  traveling – keep them safe. Lord, be with families and friends who will be gathering – bless their time together. Lord, equip and prepare us for the days ahead. Guide us with your wise counsel, speak to our hearts and continue to remind us of who we are in you. Lord, we desire to be more like you – teach us your ways, correct us when we go down the wrong path and continue to change us. Lord, slow us down so that we may experience you. In Jesus name, amen!
